Editorial Reviews

A young man inherits his late mentor's pawn shop and four million dollars from a recent collectible. Escaping the clingy money-hungry girlfriend and the media, he flees to a small town under a new name. Recalling the wise words of his mentor that "nothing takes place by chance" and "To see the blessing, you gotta move through the failure." He reaches for that which he thought he'd never have, the love of a woman.

The character mesh very well.
Harold's Sympathetic Seas
This is definitely a Christian film, but not an "in your face, Jesus way or the highway" type of movie.
Donald James. Parker
This is a pleasing story, well told and better produced than I expected.

It's a love story set in a small town USA. A young man who has a left a small town after the loss of an older friend....he died. A young woman who left another small town when she called off a wedding because the groom wasn't right for her. They both arrive in a third small town on the same bus. They each get jobs and begin to take notice of each other. The interest grows and there are a couple of hiccups in the growing relationship. It's positive feel good movie that was very refreshing for me. I really enjoyed it!

I just viewed this on Netflix, and I hope amazon makes it available for viewing for their prime members as well.

An absolutely wonderful movie with old-fashioned values. I really enjoyed the slow, evolving pace. I'm so tired of movies where you're hit with a two-by-four.

What really struck me was the acting by the lead actor Tyler Roberds. Understated, compelling and absolutely wonderful. I enjoyed his acting so much, I had to look him up on google. He does have a website (if sparse!)...but he's young and just starting out, apparently. I sure hope we see more of him.

Excellent movie all around. Highly recommended.

P.S. I'd like to point out that one reviewer practically declared this film to be of Calvinist ilk because of the term "Providence" used in the movie. I'd like to point out that providence is a term used in several Christian denominations, and Wikipedia has a nice explanation of the term.

This is definitely a Christian film, but not an "in your face, Jesus way or the highway" type of movie. The director/producer of the movie was only 23 years-old at the time of the shooting. We really can't expect a masterpiece out of him at this stage. What he has created here is a solid start to a promising career. I think Caleb Vetter will be a name we will hear for many years as he gains experience, works with more professional casts and crews, and commands a larger budget.
There were some issues I found with the script - such as the hero teaching his heartthrob to play chess simply by telling her that every piece has its own unique way to move. Yet she moved the pieces without being told how a knight or a bishop etc. navigate the board. As a chess player, I loved the analogy of life to a game of chess and also to God's dealing with His children.
So if you like low key, down to earth puppy love type of romances, this movie should work well for you. If you need a charge of adrenaline from your movie watching, this one would probably leave you wanting.

This is a great film that follows God's plans. Even though they don't always make sense His plans always come through.
We follow our main character who through interaction with his co-partner is taught about making moves and how they will lead you to God's goodness.
So he makes his moves when things get dicey, finding himself on a bus headed to a little town where he get's off and finds a new job.
Yet God continues to bring another travel into his path who he forges a relationship with.

You'll find yourself drawn into a great story as well as falling in love with the characters themselves.

I really liked this one because it was simple, not a lot of "action", but it showed how he leaned what he was taught and choose to help her out, though he had something to gain. He showed compassion and wanted to bless both of the ladies. How to recapture what was lost and begin again the something new. I thoroughly enjoyed it. For those that like a simple love story.

Pawn's Move is a must see. It has a variety of issues that it handles with integrity. The actors played their roles convincingly. Mr. Vetter shows great promise in the movie industry.

"Pawn's Move" has an excellent plot and a great cast. I was entertained thoroughly.

In a small town, a young man and a young girl meet while both are running from different problems. The gentleman is trying to lose his crazy ex-girlfriend and the lady, her ex-fiance. After a few attempts, they finally start to interact.
