We bought this product to use on our pontoon boat so that our 70-lb. labradoodle could get back on the boat after swimming. It works okay when there is someone at the foot of the ladder to guide her feet so that she doesn't slip off the side, but I tried to send her down it alone, and her foot slipped between the ladder and the boat so that she was hanging by one back leg. I recommend the product when there are two people to help guide the dog, but be aware that, for a large dog at least, there are some safety questions, since the ladder is quite narrow.

The ladder was definitely NOT made for large dogs (90 lbs). The steps are way too small. My dog's paw barely fit on one of the steps. I will say that returning it and getting some of my money back (they subtracted shipping and handling) was relatively quick. Bummed it didn't work.

I bought this to attach to a ladder on my pontoon boat to assist my golden retriever onto the boat in waist deep water. He loves to jump in the lake chasing tennis balls and then go back on the boat. I thought this would be a good way for him to get back up vs me standing in the water and helping him up the ladder. I am not 100% happy with this item as it does not secure good and seems to float. I did buy extra velcro straps from Amazon to try to secure a lower bar better to my ladder and it helped some, but not much. When this is attached without what I added, it floats in the water and as waves hit the boat, this bounces up and down. My dog is more scared of it then and won't go near it. Even attaching the straps that are made onto this to secure the top of it aren't that great and take a lot of playing around with to secure it. It is the only item like this on the market so I am keeping it and will keep trying to make it work. If I would have seen this ahead of time, I probably would not have bought it.
