Paws & Claws - Pet Vet is in essence a sims game for pet lovers, combined with a bit of simple Trauma Center style vet fixing. You are a female vet, and your clientele consists solely of white, slim men who bring in a parade of pets.

You start out with the simple ones - guinea pigs, rabbits and budgies. I love budgies so I thought this was great :) In each case they tell you EXACTLY what to do to fix the pet. There is no guesswork involved. They tell you "put on disinfectant", you do, and you get paid. The only challenge at all here is to manage your stock of ointments and cures. If you run out of something, and a patient comes in, you have to turn him away and he gets angry. Since the pharmacy is right down the road, you would think you could tell the owner, "Wait right here, I'll be back in a jiffy"!

As you earn money, you can take training to learn how to care for cats, dogs, and horses, bringing your total animal population to six. You can also build new overnight-stay buildings, and expand them. This gives you incentive to cure a lot of pets - soon you have an entire complex of budgie cages, cat homes, dog kennels, stables and more.

Unfortunately, you build these locations all over the map, meaning half of your time is spent racing between appointments to feed and pet the animals, and clean the cages. Even worse, while the small animal food is stored with the animals, the cat, dog and horse food is only stored at the main building. This means you have a ton of trekking back and forth at top speed, carrying food one by one, trying to keep your animals happy. If an owner comes to pick up his pet and it's not a happy camper, you don't get paid.

The game also enforces a vet bedtime - when 20:00 rolls around, you're forced to bed.

I'm really into Pet Vet. It is a sim-type game. You are a perky/enthusiastic new Vet who has a need for healing animals and to build a practice. The first time I played it I had a really hard time stopping because something new would happen or I'd have to keep running back and forth between the sick animal houses and the office (which naturally are not in the same building). There are only 4 people (so far) in this town, plus their many clones, who bring in first guinea pigs, rabbits and birds, and then as your practice grows you get to treat cats and dogs. I haven't gotten to horses yet, but that will come. I like that the sim vet/you gives the patients the once over, then you get to "treat" them. I hope you get to hire an assistant...all that running around wears me out. The "days" in the game go by pretty fast, but not too fast...mostly I'm too busy to notice the clock much....There's a town where you get supplies, bank loans, training and such. It's very immersive and a lot of fun. Definitely 5 stars.

In the game you get to take care of sick animals and if needed keep them over night. I think the Nintendo Ds game of it is better than the computer. On the Pc one you have to buy a horse to be able to go riding. And on the DS one all you have to do is on the start menu tap on the words "go riding" And you get to choose from 5 different horses. Then you can go riding right away. The controls were hard at first but I got the hang of it. You have to have the right hand-eye cornation to get the jumps just right. Overall I think is it fun. Buy the animal's sounds are a bit off. I would think if you were 8-12 you would love this game. I'm 11 years old.

This is a good game for anybody who wants to be a vet, or for anybody who like animals. I like animals so that is why I brought this game. In this game for nintendo ds you get to treat: birds, rabbits, guinea pigs, dogs, cats, and horses. Just be careful with this game because on one of the games that I started, in the middle of the game where it said end the day and go to the next, I pushed the button to go forward to the next day and the screen turned black on me, so I had to start another game. Hopefully that won't happen again.

Let me tell you. I am a complete animal lover and at first this game is fun but during the first hour of playing it I had figured out that no matter what kind of animal your patient is they all have the same disease. There are probably only about ten different diseases.
I gave this game three stars because after a while it gets kind of boring. If you are thinking about getting this game for someone than you should really think about getting another game.
Also in the game the directions are hard to understand. When I first got the game I just walked around because I could not figure out what to do . So I would consider getting another game if I were you.

We tried the Pet Vet CD-Rom game, but had problems installing it on our computer and could not get technical support. My daughter was devastated. I found the DS version of the same game and thought we'd try that (can't have installation problems with a DS game - right?). Well, she loves it!

We purchased this for my son's 6th birthday. Luckily we bought it used at Game Stop and were able to immediately return it for another game. There is A LOT of reading very tiny print, words like disinfectant, parasite, infection, and ointment. Definitely not for the younger child. Even for the older it was very repetitive and a little boring.
