Great concept - initial stages a little mundane,

I bought this game for my kids, ages 8 and 5, both of whom love animals and one of whom wants to be a veterinarian. In essence, this game teaches you how to run a business. You gotta have a regular customer base just to survive (have income). With that income, you have to maintain your supplies, as well as advance your career by continuously going back to school and expanding your practice.
Once you master the controls and learn how to manipulate your character both around town and providing treatment to animals, the game is fairly intuitive. After the first "day" of your practice, you'll learn which pharmaceuticals you need more of, like disinfectant. Pretty soon, you'll only be making one trip to the pharm per day. My first day, I think I made two or three. The game is complex enough to include other businesses that you go to for help, including a bank (loan), the pharmacy, an advertising agency, and a pet food store to name the major ones. WHile I have only played the game for a few hours, I like the big picture business model that this presents. I'm not sure if my kids will be able to figure it out on their own, but I'll be glad to explain it to them along the way. I wouldn't recommend it for kids under 10, or someone who wants a "Pet Pals" type of game where there's a touchy feely type of interaction with the animals...this is all business from what I've seen. I'll be going back to school (in the game) so I can work on cats. I'll provide an update on how that's going and whether I think this game is still worth playing. Edit: sorry for the late update. although this game is great for teaching someone about business in general, when you unlock other features in the game, it is virtually impossible to do everything you need to do. One option should be to allow the veterinarian (you) to hire an assistant to deal with the more mundane every day tasks like feeding and carrying for some of the smaller animals, while you take on the bigger, more complex animals. However, since that isn't an option, you have to balance doing EVERYTHING yourself. After a while, it just becomes such a chore that you don't want to play anymore as there's no reward for it. Perhaps it models real life more than I thought...LOL.

Have 11 year old twins who got this for their birthday but the game (as mentioned in other reviews) is too monotonous for a tween's attention span.
If you expect to be taking care of all kinds of animals, you'd better have a LOT of time on your hands. The game is not very user friendly, either.

I bought this for my young daughter, who is a pet-lover. She hates it and won't go near it. It is very monotonous and repetitive. You aren't given a choice as to what types of animals you get to treat. You have to work your way up and start with small animals (hamsters, guinea pigs, rabbits, birds, etc.). After about the 20th hamster (and sometimes the same one over and over again), she got bored with it. Also, you're doing the same procedures over and over again (sometimes with a different animal, but again sometimes the same animal and same procedure repeatedly). One night after she went to bed, I stayed up and played through it hoping that I could advance her through the game myself so that she could treat more animals. Didn't help much. Big disappointment. Not at all fun for either an adult or child. Stay away from this game.
