5.0 out of 5 stars The thrilling conclusion to the Fingerprints series., February 5, 2002
This review is from: Payback (Fingerprints No. 7) (Paperback)
Rae got the shock of her life when she found out Yana, her supposed best friend, was the one who was trying to kill her. But Yana's locked away where she can't cause any harm. And Rae and Anthony are together and happy. But then Aiden shows up, with the news that Yana has escaped. Rae is terrified that Yana will try to kill her again. But what is Yana really after? Is she still determined to kill Rae? Or has she learned the truth, and directed her rage at the agency? Rae knows that if Yana goes up against the agency, she'll never win. But would Yana ever listen to Rae, and can she even be trusted? I highly recommend this conclusion to the Fingerprints series. The end was really thrilling and surprising. I just wish there was another book, because the end did leave some questions unanswered.

5.0 out of 5 stars A lifelong rage..., February 7, 2002
This review is from: Payback (Fingerprints No. 7) (Paperback)
Rae has come to the end of a terrifying and unbelievable struggle. After living with the awkwardness of knowing that her powers make her very unique, and after facing off against what seemed like more than one enemy in her life, the battle is at last over. She has Anthony and has found the freedom of being alive after so many deadly encounters. Now, as she prepares to move on in high school and make more friends, the betrayal of Yana will forever live in her mind -- a betrayal that was deeper than anything Rae could have ever imagined. But those thoughts don't even compare to when Aiden returns and tells Rae and Anthony that Yana has escaped prison. Rae knows just how deadly Yana can be -- she knows the hatred and rage burning inside the mind of the girl who used be her best friend. She knows that Yana is the most dangerous person in the world to her. And she also knows that her powers -- the ability to read thoughts through a person's fingerprints -- may not be able to help her this time. Can Rae get yet Yana to discover the truth before it's too late -- even if that will be the hardest thing to do? Rae has seen and faced unbelievable battles in her life ever since her powers to read fingerprints started. But the battle she now faces may be the most ultimate battle of all. Fingerprints #7: Payback is the long-awaited and excellent conclusion of Melinda Metz's powerfully absorbing Fingerprints series. I am going to sorely miss this series, from the first spellbinding book to its worthy conclusion, as a series that has a special place in the hearts of readers everywhere. Fingerprints is among the most extraordinary series out there, and in only seven books, it has turned into a masterpiece.

5.0 out of 5 stars End of a great series..., November 23, 2004

This review is from: Payback (Fingerprints No. 7) (Paperback)
This last book has everything that was left to happen in the series. Rae and Anthony are together and they've both said the 'i love you' thing. Yana learns the truth behind her mother's murder and finally believes Rae had nothing to do with it. I had a lot of questions about Mandy's power after reading the sixth book. All confusion got cleared at the end of this one! Marcus and Anthony have a slight face-to-face. I was really hoping they'd have one! So basically the series is complete, no lose ends. Even though there's no clear explanation behind why Rae's English teacher was so slimy and creepy. Excepting this the book has all the answers you can want.

Really sad to think there's no more Rae and Anthony stuff to read out there!! I wish Melinda Metz would start another series. Soon!

I started this series in June/July of 2001. I loved them but only purchased the first 2 books. After finishing them in a few weeks I got books 3&4. I read them and loved them! I really got into the whole RaeAnthony situations, her powers, and Yana! Last week while I was out on break I got 5,6,and 7. I have now read 1,2,3,4,5&6, and Im about to finish 7! These are the best books I have ever read. But i can tell that the series needs to have more the 7 books. I have been connected with ALL the characters and couldnt put the books down! Raes' powers are awesome and the whole Marcus/Anthony thing is awsome too!! (I always hoped Anthony and Rae would be togther!) And when you find out who wants to kill Rae, that's even suprising! These are the best books I have ever read, and when I finish them it's guna be like loosing a BEST FRIEND! I definetly would suggest these books to anyone! They are awesome!! (Note to Author:MAKE MORE BOOKS!!)

4.0 out of 5 stars An end of an esciting chapter, April 9, 2002

Yana has escaped from custody and Rae and Anthony have no idea if she still believes that Rae's mother killed her mother. While Anthony tries to protect Rae, Rae is trying to find out where Yana is - a not so easy task while she is also trying to help a friend in need of her special skills. Meanwhile the Agency is busy trying to keep track of the children that resulted from their experiments. Rae and Yana are both in danger from the Agency that ultimately created them - and the Agency is planning on collecting its property.

I really enjoyed reading this book (after reading 5 & 6 the day before). I felt that this book is a great conclusion to the main storyline that has been threaded through the Fingerprint novels - the hate that Yana has for Rae because she thinks that Rae's mother killed hers. It also had a nice touch (if somewhat cliched) in the way that Yana deals with the Agency.

I think that Melinda Metz could easily keep this series going if she gives it some time and then finds an equally strong storyline to continue with. Rae and Anthony are finally together, and it looks as if several other couples in the novels are going to make a go of it too so maybe she coulkd continue with the next generation again????

If you have enjoyed all the other books then you should read this one too - and even if you lost interest in this series then you should read this one because it will give you closure on the series and explain a lot about where Rae and Yana came from.

Rae has been through a lot. She found out her best friend was trying to kill her.... Yana, the daughter of Melissa Voight's supposed victim and fellow member of an elite experimental group, tried to make Rae murder herself using her power to implant thoughts into a persons head. Anthony saves Rae, AND in return he got quite a bit of veddy veddy nice things :-P. Mandy, daughter of another victim of the experimental group Rae's, and Yana's mom was apart of, comes to Rae with concerns for her sister. She seems to be giving up a lot to hang around, a freak named Zeke. Rae and Mandy, along with Anthony and Jesse (Mandy's love interest), find out Emily, Mandy's sister, plans to do some bad, bad things with Zeke. LOL Rae and friends go through quite a bit, and eventually find out what's happening with Mandy's sister. At the end, Rae and Anthony profess their love for each other. Awwww!...

But there were good parts in the book, like when rae and anthony were together. they seem so in to each other its sooo cute! But overall, i was kinda dissapointed that melinda metz finished such a good series with such a dissapointing book.

5.0 out of 5 stars PAYBACK: Good...and bad..., February 20, 2002
This review is from: Payback (Fingerprints No. 7) (Paperback)
At the end of the sixth FINGERPRINTS book, I thought, "Well, there, the perfect ending." But it wasn't the end. This seventh book, PAYBACK, was still to come.

Considering that most of the threads were tied up at the end of #6, Melinda Metz did a wonderful job coming up with a new, compelling plot for the last book. Yana knows the truth about her mother's murder, and now she's going to make the agency who did it pay. But Yana -- and the reader -- have known from the beginning that the agency is big, and taking it on can't be done in a day. Simmilarly, the story can't be told in one book. While the book ends with a major victory for Yana and Rae, they both made it clear that it's not the end of their battle.

I felt ripped off, mad...it was originally six books, extended to seven -- she needs ample space to continue the story. Rae and Yana's fight with the agency could very well have been the setup for another seven or eight books...

5.0 out of 5 stars Great thrilling ending to a great series, March 2, 2002
This review is from: Payback (Fingerprints No. 7) (Paperback)
Taking straight off from the last book when Rae got the shock of her life that her best friend Yana was really the one after her all this time, it seems ideal that that she is having a normal life again with Yana now in prison. She can get through her high school years like a normal teen and get over her awkward fingerprint reading ability. And she can finally be with Anthony...However when Aiden shows up and tells Rae that Yana had escaped from prison her life is turned upside down all over again. Rae knows that Yana is her biggest threat to happiness but is Yana after Rae? Or after the agency?

I really liked the conclusion to the great Fingerprints series. I wish though that there were more books because it truly is a good series and there were more storyline. However this is an ideal ending!
