This book was ok! I was expecting it to be a little bit better than what it was. The story was kind of all over the place and it had alot of unecessary characters. The ending was alright but it wasnt a shocker.so in a way I guess i was a little dissapointed. But am still a fan of wahida clark.

Wahida Clark is back with a banger!!! All Wahida's fans know that Payback is a Mutha was originally titled Don't Knock The Hustle but it's release took so long that another author utilized that title. But please believe that even with a different title Payback is still All That!!!!

Payback follows two best friends Brianna and Shan whose attitudes on life are totally different. Both women are dime pieces but Brianna manipulates men to get ahead while Shan would rather earn an honest living. Through it all their friendship remain strong until one of Brianna's hustles places both girl's backs up against the wall.

Brianna's trickery causes a domino effect that not even she can withstand, forcing Shan to become a player in a game she usually watched from the side lines. While Brianna finally sees the wrong in her actions but not before having to deal with Payback in it's most brutal form.

Payback is a Mutha is full of deceit, treachery, sex, murder and mayhem and is sure to place Ms. Clark back on The Essence Best Seller's List where she belongs!!!

This book by Wahida Clark was on fire! I could not put it down! Brianna and Shan both had a fair share of drama in their lives. Brianna was real scandolous and was always willing to set someone else up for that mighty dollar. Shan was more laid back but ends up getting involved in some stuff that makes her a little shady too! Payback is a mutha and Brianna will learn if you play with fire you wil get burned! This book is hot! It's got enough drama, sex, and twists and turns to keep you up late at night reading!! I look forward to her next novel..it's a shame that other author stole her former title b/c that other book was garbage!

5.0 out of 5 stars Still Waiting, April 6, 2006
This review is from: Payback is a Mutha (Paperback)
It took me a minute to actually read this book because I was expecting a follow-up to the other two. I pre-ordered this book in Feb. thinking I was gonna find out were Snake had been, who shot Trae, did Tash have twins and did Angel get married. The new book was very good, but I still want to know about the ending to Every Thugs Needs A Lady. I hope Ms. Clark does not leave her fans disappointed and come back with a follow-up very soon.

4.0 out of 5 stars A snitch, A trick. Payback is a Beeaaatch!!!, April 8, 2006
This review is from: Payback is a Mutha (Paperback)
Wahida's back!!!!!! She's done it again! But with all new characters.

Introducing Brianna and Shan, two best friends. Although one is a better friend than that other, thus are the 'days of our lives.' Brianna is out for the almighty dollar, and she will stab you in the back if you get in her way. Shan is looking for that knight in shining armor but she keeps looking in all the wrong places and mos def the wrong faces.

You can bet that there is alot of action, jealousy, scheming, manipulation, robbery, hot sex scenes, (although some not very appetizing), and suspense going on in this joint right here. Wahida does not leave any of it out.

Ms. Clark has told yet another tale. The only flaw is that her faithful readers will be disappointed because they are all awaiting the conclusion to the "Thugs..." and they won't find it in "Payback...". So hopefully, she will read the reviews and answer her fanbase's call. We are all still at the elevator praying that "our man, Trae" doesn't die. Put us out of our misery and come on with the come on. You shouldn't have made him so d@*& sexy, and we wouldn't be hounding you.

But, I give Ms. Clark her props! When she writes, we will buy! Continued success to you!

4.0 out of 5 stars (RAW Rating: 3.5) - Revenge Served Sweet, June 2, 2006

PAYBACK IS A MUTHA by Wahida Clark is the story of two best friends, Shan and Brianna, who although they grew up together and have been friends since elementary school, have different personalities and goals in life. Shan believes in working for her money and is employed at a men's prison and prefers the hip hop wardrobe of Sean Jean, Fubu and Baby Phat. Brianna is more high maintenance and believes in using and abusing men to get any and everything she wants, including her high dollar weaves and furnishing her closets with Chanel and Prada. Through all of life's ups and downs they can always count on each other, at least that's what they think.

Lying and deceiving is a part of Brianna's everyday hustle. If it will benefit her in the end she will do whatever it takes to get what she wants and doesn't care who gets hurt along the way, essentially she is just out for self. Unfortunately for her she deceives the wrong people and life as she knows it begins tumbling down. In the midst of her hustle she ends up hurting the one person who has always been in her corner and had her back. Blood is shed, lives are at stake and a friendship that was once solid as a rock is on shaky ground. Does Brianna value the friendship with Shan enough to change her wicked ways, or will she continue to be all about self?

PAYBACK IS A MUTHA is a story of lies, deceit, loyalty and friendship. The characters are well-developed and the writing flowed well. There are a few too many secondary characters and I found it a bit hard to remember who was friends with or related to whom. There are several valuable lessons in this story, one of which is to treat others as you want to be treated as well as choose your friends wisely. Clark told a great story that I am sure urban fiction lovers everywhere will enjoy.

This book was great Ms. Clark puts it down in her stories and I have to say this story was so real and full of action all the way to the end I can't wait to read the second book.I hope she does put out a second one to this one since it's left with a cliff hanger. You will love this as well as all of Wahida's books.Brianna is smart but gets hooked up in some crazy stuff you have to read it to see what I mean. Go and get this one.

5.0 out of 5 stars Karma is a mutha too!!!, June 22, 2006
This review is from: Payback is a Mutha (Paperback)
This was my first book by the author and I was skeptical at first. That all ended once she introduced the many players in this urban drama. The main characters are Brianna "B" and Shan - and both are as different as night and day. B stays fly and with weaves and designer gear by "playin' the playa's". While Shan earns her living the honest way - with a j-o-b. However, when B plays the wrong playa in an attempt to get some "payback" innocent bystanders get "caught up" and the lives of those close to her are held in the balance. Is it too late for B to make things right???

Also on hand are a bevy of characters - Shadee, Forever, Nyla, Peanut (Shan's brother), Skye, Zeke - and their backstories and you've got a drama packed with drama, drama and more drama.

Take a trip and read this tale of payback and karma. I literally could not put this book down - I was reading every spare moment I could.

Kudos to the auther for weaving a most enjoyable tale...granted there were many "players" in this story and they were hard to keep up with. However I commend the author for mixing all of the characters - and their drama - into tightly knit tale!!!

I look forward to reading more books from this author....

This book was definitely a page turner. A lot of unexpected twists that i definitely did not expect. This book was the bomb. Its amazing how many real Brianna's are actually out there. Yes she had all the money and material things, but money cant buy happiness, and she truly found that out in the end. Never cross your true friends, because karma will come back to haunt you. Great read Wahida Clark, looking forward to the next one!!!!

I loved this book. I couldn't put it down. Even though there were ALOT of characters and story lines to try to keep up with...I did just that and I enjoyed every minute of it. Wahida Clark has quickly become one of my favorite authors. I will definitely be reading any and all of her writings. In fact, I have so far.
