Definitely kept my interest!,
This review is from: Payback: The Return of C.R.E.A.M. (Hardcover)
My initial reason for purchasing this book is because of an error made by my public library-I never checked out the book, yet the library was showing I did. Rather than fight them and their policy, I just purchased a replacement. When the book arrived, I was going to immediately take the book to the library to get credit, but after reading the introduction, I decided to read it. I was pleasantly surprised. The beautiful and classy Karima Thomas, a.k.a, "Cream", was determined to get her payback. She had help from someone no one would suspect. Shocking family secrets were revealed in the process but you'll have to read the book to find out if Cream got her payback!

The sequel is definitely a page turner. Much like "Ride or Die" you are looking for the main characters to break through with profundity, but the creativeness of Mr. Jones will not allow it. There were many twists and turns and I must admit I did not like where you were taking Lynch in reference to the romantic connection with Karima. Thanks for saving the day for marriage and faithfulness. I would have lost respect for Lynch. Why couldn't Karmina and Troy have a civil conversation first before continuing the mayhem? I am glad however that she slipped out of this one. Don't take too long to write part three. I have to know how she and Skeet made out, especially since he replaces her blood brother. Lynch and his family need some excitement and who knows, maybe Jamal and Keisha will show up in this one.
Well done---good writers keep in coming!!!!

This book was just ok. I got lost in some of the detail, a lil too wordy. It explained how some people were connected to each other and why things were happening the way they were.

Recently released from prison, Karima Thomas finds herself back in court facing new charges when an unknown assailant stabs her mother. With no possible leads, Karima finds herself depending on the very person who led her to capture in the first place, Captain Kevin Lynch. While Kevin Lynch has vowed to serve and protect, for some reason Karima seems to have a special hold over him. While he's denied that it's anything more than his incessant need to solve the case, he finds himself having to decide between helping Karima or being there for his family.
The city of Philly is under attack and things will be fine once all of the Thomas family secrets have been revealed and they've all been forced to pay for all of the mayhem they have caused. Deathbed confessions and collaborating politicians leave Karima standing in an unknown line of fire. Troy Williams is looking to reconnect with the long forgotten branches of his politically laced family tree. While there won't be any happy reunions or hopes for keeping in touch, Troy has a list of reasons why the people who've wronged him must suffer. Karima and Troy find themselves scouring the city of Philly for PAYBACK. Who will be on top? PAYBACK THE RETURN OF C.R.E.A.M, although a sequel, has a strong enough storyline with new characters that makes for an intriguing read. I do hope that Solomon Jones will continue with his interesting characters soon. Reviewed by: Crystal

wild satirical sequel,
This review is from: Payback: The Return of C.R.E.A.M. (Hardcover)
Municipal Court of Philadelphia Judge Myra Weaks is ruling whether Karima "Cream" Thomas must stand trial for the death of her boyfriend, Duane Faision (see C.R.E.A.M.). As the Judge states there is efficient evidence for Ms. Thomas to stand trial for murder and the accused insists an accident during a shoot out occurred, a scream is heard by all inside the courtroom by someone outside.
Karima, worried about her mom's reaction to the recent tragic events, recognizes the voice and rushes out to the hallway. There she finds her mother Sharon Thomas dying from a puncture wound in her neck; the Ice Pick serial killer has struck. Karima vows to avenge her mom's death. However, as the killer goes on a rampage murdering anyone he had the slightest grudge with, Karima follows his icy blood trail looking for a confrontation. This is a wild satirical sequel starring a kick butt African-American heroine who takes no prisoners as shown by the opening argument between her and the Judge over the merit of her late drug dealing boyfriend and never slows down as Cream takes readers on a tour of the city. The story line is fast-paced and filled with action while the audience anticipates a final grudge match winner takes all between the diabolically brilliant profiling Ice Pick killer and the heroine, mindful of Cleopatra Jones. I've purchased C.R.E.A.M and Payback at one of Solomon Jones book signings and could not wait to read them. I was not disappointed. Solomon Jones has created a strong female character in Karima Thomas aka Cream. Cream comes from a life of privilege with a political family name, beauty and strenght. Cream fell in love with a drug dealer and the streets. With this mixture Cream used it to clear herself of a political murder charge.
In Payback Cream uses her ability to travel in both worlds as she tried to avoid the political mine fields left by her family. Cream realized in order to survive and honor her mother she had to take it to the streets. Cream is a modern day version of Easy Rawlings as she travels in both worlds and do things the police cant to solve a crime. I hope to see Cream and her new found friend/family Skeet again.Payback: The Return of C.R.E.A.M.

After stating her position to the judge, Karima "Cream" Thomas waits impatiently on a decision which will affect the rest of her life. When the judge speaks at last, she is stopped in mid-sentence by a blood-curdling scream. Recognizing the voice, Cream bolts from the courtroom, to her shock and surprise she sees her mother lying in a pool of blood, dying. Cream and everyone around knows the serial killer, Ice Pick, has struck again. Cream promises to get revenge for her mother's death. The city of Philadelphia will never be the same.
Amazing story line, but at times the author seems to ramble and issues were stated but not expounded on. I would have loved to see more on the mental health aspect as opposed to it just being briefly mentioned. Characters were introduced who added nothing to the storyline, and the ending left me totally confused with unanswered questions about PAYBACK. PAYBACK: The Return of C. R. E. A. M. is the sequel to Payback, I think the first book should be read before reading the sequel. Reviewed by Toni Bonita of The RAWSISTAZ(tm) Reviewers

Mr.Jones, You've done it again! The book was excellent! Once again you've made your readers think or imagine that they were right there with the people in the book. I really enjoyed it keep writing. By me being in the mental health field, it was interesting that the subject was touched on. There are many families out there who have skeltons in their closets and have taken family secrets to their grave. Times are changing now and people are getting help for their mental healht isssues. That is a big step for some people.Once again, great book!I love what you did with the character Kevin Lyles, there are so many people who are so wrapped up in their jobs they forget about their family!
