Saving the best for last in the exciting Trilogy. All the questions that were left unanswered in the previous novels will be answered. It is fast-paced and exciting. 3.0 out of 5 stars Unsatisfying Ending
I worked my way through all three of the Raven/Fairfax trilogy and while the concept was great and it had some wonderful parts I found the ending to be very unsatisfying. While trying not to give too much away for anyone who might like to read it, I was disappointed that Ellie didn't get to be part of the verbal showdown and was very irritated with how the story of Ron...

The novel starts with Luke Savarani spotted the supposed to be dead Ron Raven at a restaurant when he tries to catch him runs away. To added further complication he used to date Kate Fairfax daughter of Avery Fairfax Ron Raven second wife. Now he has to break the news to the Fairfaxs and try to fight old feelings. Well done Jasmine Cresswell.

3.0 out of 5 stars Unsatisfying Ending, December 17, 2007

I worked my way through all three of the Raven/Fairfax trilogy and while the concept was great and it had some wonderful parts I found the ending to be very unsatisfying. While trying not to give too much away for anyone who might like to read it, I was disappointed that Ellie didn't get to be part of the verbal showdown and was very irritated with how the story of Ron Raven ended. All in all they are not bad as love stories go, even better as mysteries go but as a combination it's not the greatest.

4.0 out of 5 stars Nice read, kept me guessing, February 12, 2008
This review is from: Payback (Mass Market Paperback)
I had not read any other books by Jasmine Cresswell, but I picked up this book on a whim and I'm glad I did. True, at times the prose was a bit clumsy, and the romance bits were a bit cliched, but the mystery definitely held my interest. My biggest problem with romances in general is that I find them too predictable, but this one was particularly good in that respect. Yes, of course we all know that the hero and heroine will end up in bed together, that is a foregone conclusion with this type of book- but Kate's quest for her father takes some very unexpected turns. I did not figure out the mystery too early on- though I caught on to the major plot twist before the main characters did- and the story was entertaining and stimulating enough to keep me reading.

Overall, I recommend this to romance lovers and to people like me who aren't too big into that genre but like a good mystery.

And like I said, I had not read either of the other two books but I had no trouble following the story.

4.0 out of 5 stars The best of the series, December 16, 2007

This book was the best of its prequels but far away from JC's best. The story is fast paced and the end is really good, you won't know the bad guy until the very book's end. On the other hand, the three main stories - one in each book- are Ron's kids love stories so when you start the third book, I mean this one, you'll know the end of the love story almost since the beginning.

4.0 out of 5 stars exciting ending to the Ravens and Fairfax trilogy, October 30, 2007
This review is from: Payback (Mass Market Paperback)
After being a media sensation (for two books - SUSPECT and MISSING), the late wealthy bigamist Ron Raven is no longer headlines news and his two families are finally moving on past his transgressions. Everything changes when Chef Luke Savarini sees Ron dining in a Chicago restaurant. He calls Ron's "second" wife who informs her daughter, Chef Kate Fairfax, what her former lover claims.

Kate reluctantly agrees to talk with Luke, but believes he is either an idiot or for some reason cruel. However, once her rage cools down to a slow burn, she begins to accept the possibility that her father pulled off an even wilder stunt than anyone imagined. She plans to learn the truth, but someone wants Ron to remain "dead" so if his daughter and her ex need to die so be it.

This is an exciting ending to the Ravens and Fairfax trilogy although the police come across as more incompetent than the Keystone cops. The story line is fast-paced as the lead couple investigates what happened to Ron but their attraction reigniting in a second chance subplot seems unnecessary as the hunt for Raven, if he lives, is more than poetic justice to sustain the PAYBACK.

I ordered this book on Nov 28 and finally received it Dec 28. I ordered it standard shipping not thinking that would be a problem but apparently it was. I was very disappointed as this was part of my Mother's Christmas. I had to contact them twice before I finally got a response telling me they had shipped the book.
