Very good, yet not so good.,
This review is from: Paying the Virgin's Price (Harlequin Historical) (Kindle Edition)
I liked this book in the sense that it's a fantastic romance and I love all the stuff done by Christine Merrell. What I didn't like it that this is part of a series done with other authors and also including "Taken by a Wicked Rake" and can't stand alone very easily. If you don't read the others (and i hadn't) this book leaves you feeling a bit confused in sections and wondering what exactly the characters are referring to.
I liked the idea of a father giving away his daughter's virginity as an iou at the card tables. It's a clever plot twist and although similar styles have been used I've never seen it done in quite this way.

An enjoyable read,

An enjoyable read, but the real charm lies in the hero. Nathan Wardale is a gambler with a soul and a pocket full of secrets. The final twist is the best in the developing relationship between Nathan and his love. Secondary characters are more interesting than typical, mostly because this is part of a series.

Nathan Wardale father was hung for killing a peer when Nathan was 10 years old. His life changed in that moment and now years later the past has surfaced again. Nathan became a gambler and lost contact with his family. While gambling he has collected lots of items from the 'Ton' but the worst was IOU from a father for his daughters virginity. While Nathan is trying to clear his father's name he cross paths with Diana Price (the women he holds the IOU on) a then the twists and turns really start.
It was a interesting read but I am glad I picked it up at the Library. I found Christine Merrill writing interesting and look for more by this author. |
