All true, but written as fiction,
By A Customer
This review is from: Payola! (Hardcover)
Anyone who has worked in radio, in particular during the 60s or 70s & 80s, can attest that most of the scenarios played out in this novel are in fact, true. The book is written convincingly, grippingly and is paced so that it quickly becomes a page turner. Cage has written what he knows and this book displays that knowledge. The underbelly of the radio and records world is not pretty and the glamourous facade is a tempting, duplicitous entity. Knowing this makes this book a should-read for anyone even mildly curious about the relationships between radio and record executives, enabling the discovery of how an artist or song really breaks on the radio.

As a veteran of radio I LOVED this book! Mr. Cagle has captured and distilled every jock I have ever worked with into a few key characters in the book. . .have the names been changed to protect the "innocent?" Several riveting scenes. . .should be a movie! Bravo, Mr. Cagle. . .please write some more.
