2.0 out of 5 stars Disable XP welcome screen, June 2, 2006
By D. Bentt (Kensington, MD USA) - See all my reviews
Installation was straight forward and it worked very well. However, less than 1 week later, my computer froze and when I rebooted, I was asked for logon user name and password. After a bit of sleuthing I found out that the adapter software installs a certain Gtgina.dll which disables your welcome screen in Windows XP. It was then impossible to connect to my router even with an ethernet cable until I uninstalled the Linksys software. Not good. I'm taking it back.

5.0 out of 5 stars Response to previous review :, June 23, 2006
By Lil' Rowlands (Detroit Lakes, MN) - See all my reviews
D. Bentt: Not sure if you took it back aleady or not, but there is a way to bring back the settings to change the welcome screen settings user logon/logoff settings. When you install the wireless adapter, it installs this little .dll entry (GTGina.dll), which disables the welcome screen and denies you when you want to make chages. It also places that value in your system registry in its associated folder.

STEP BY STEP INSTRUCTION:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE - Software - Microsoft - WindowsNT - CurrentVersion - Winlogon - [THE VALUE WILL BE LISTED IN HERE AND YOU CAN SAFELY DELETE IT WITHOUT IT EFFECTING YOUR ADAPTER, WELCOME SCREEN SETTINGS, OR WINDOWS FUNCTIONALITY]. After the value is deleted, restart your system and continue forth. I hope this is helpful to you.

2.0 out of 5 stars easy, but very poor reception, May 13, 2006
By M. Ford (Seattle, WA) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
My mother-in-law came to visit for a month and brought her computer with her. I wanted an easy way to connect her desktop computer to our wireless access point (also linksys). This product is very easy to install (USB), but must have a terrible antenna, because it has a hard time picking up the signal even when only ~20 feet away. We have two laptops that connect at high speed anywhere in the house -- compared to those, this adapter is very disappointing. That said, as long as it is installed very close to the access point, it works fine.
