Editorial Reviews

Amazon.com Review

PCWEEK Guide to Lotus Notes and Domino 4.5 covers everything from the basics of Notes application development to the varied tasks of a Notes administrator. This is the ideal book for the new Notes system administrator who will also create the workgroup's applications. It contains a thorough, well-written account of how to create basic Notes and Web-based applications.

Each example explains why you would want to add the described functionality to your application and gives you a balanced view of other options. The second half of the book begins with the setup of a new Notes installation. It includes a chapter on planning the site, installing a basic server, and analyzing the need for more than one server. Each area of system administration--including database replication, network management, migrations to new releases, and managing servers--receives the same careful attention.

Although this book does not contain a CD-ROM, it does offer a well-written, thorough explanation of the general issues confronting Notes application development and administration. PCWEEK Guide to Lotus Notes and Domino 4.5 does not overwhelm the reader, but offers a careful explanation of issues before providing the nuts and bolts required to complete the task.

5.0 out of 5 stars Well written first book on Notes Dvpmt - starts with basics, May 20, 1999

This review is from: Pcweek Guide to Lotus Notes and Domino 4.5 (Paperback)
A well written first book on Lotus Notes. Each topic starts from the very basics. Great book if you're on a desert island with no computer and want to learn Notes; also good for a Notes user who wants to gradually learn development or to occasionally learn in depth about a particular Notes feature. I have not yet read any of this book for Sys Admin. I also have no sys admin experience. Because of its excellent presentation of basic concepts, the first sys admin chapters of this book are what I am choosing to read as my first exposure to sys ad. I expect that these few chapters will give me the background I need before reading the excellent Thomas/Peasley certification book.
