5.0 out of 5 stars A definite Must-Have for your Synth-Pop Collection
Anything Box is a brilliant group that helped define the pinnacle of synth pop in the early 1990s. Their first full length album, Peace, is a masterpiece of deep orchestration, beautiful vocal harmonics, and stirring lyrics. For those completely unfamiliar, think of the Cure after several doses of happy pills, adding a beautiful female vocal to the background, and...

3.0 out of 5 stars NOT a FIVE STAR album!!!
Ok, this album is o.k., but it's not particularly special. And these reviews???? W T F???? They were so persuasive. This synthpop is mostly mediocre. There are some highlights, but overall there is no way this album deserves 5 stars. The comparisons to Depeche Mode and Erasure are only accurate in the sense that the styles are similar, but definitely not the...

5.0 out of 5 stars A definite Must-Have for your Synth-Pop Collection, February 4, 2000
This review is from: Peace (Audio CD)
Anything Box is a brilliant group that helped define the pinnacle of synth pop in the early 1990s. Their first full length album, Peace, is a masterpiece of deep orchestration, beautiful vocal harmonics, and stirring lyrics. For those completely unfamiliar, think of the Cure after several doses of happy pills, adding a beautiful female vocal to the background, and borrowing some from New Order's orchestration on Substance.

The first song, "Living in Oblivion," is the defining piece; released as a single, it was a resounding dance floor smash. You will similarly bounce around smiling to "When We Lie," "Jubilation" (also released as a single), "Soul On Fire," and "Just One Day."

You'll find yourself brooding to "Our Dreams," "I Felt The Pain," "Hypocrites," and the beautiful "All These Days Undone" sung by female member Dania Morales.

And you'll find yourself actually singing to the harmony in "Kiss Of Love," "Carmen," and "Lady In Waiting," among others.

My only negative comment would be that Claude S.'s vocals sometime strain to hold the notes or the key. However, this is not too widely prevalent, and it actually helps by adding rough edge to the well polished orchestration.

Every song on Peace will move you, either physically, emotionally, or vocally. If you're a fan of well crafted synth-alt euro-pop, Peace is a must for your musical enjoyment.

5.0 out of 5 stars Peace - Something We All Need, June 18, 1999
This review is from: Peace (Audio CD)
For those of you who love synth-pop- or synth-soul PEACE is a CD you have to buy. I discovered it in 1990 and it is one of those CDs that contains almost all excellent songs. In fact, if you want to make a Anything Box greatest hits, you will find more songs from this CD on it than any other! It is one of those poetic, beautiful, uplifting pieces of music which you will enjoy for a long time. I guess nine years for me. Those who love Erasure, Yaz, and Human League (yes, all of you 1980s techno-pop people), this something that will not disappoint.

4.0 out of 5 stars One Of The Better U.S. Synth- Pop Bands, November 5, 2002

Anything Box had one big hit back in 1990 with "Living On Oblivion". This is unfortunate, because they have so many good songs. Their first album "Peace", is a collection of simple hook laden tracks. Anything Box is somewhat of a cross between DM and Erasure. The songs are more pop friendly than most DM songs, but the production values were heavily influenced by DM. However, Anything Box is a band that stands on it's own six feet. "Jubilation", "Our Dreams" and "Carmen" are just as good if not better than their big hit. And my favorite track "I Felt The Pain" is the one moment where Claude S lets loose, and gives us his best vocal performance on the album. All in all, a good album with a few throw away tracks. If you like synth-pop, this is a must.

5.0 out of 5 stars HIGH ENERGY!, July 30, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: Peace (Audio CD)
Having been friends with Anything Box for several years, I can still state without bias that they are truly something special in the electronic music world. Their other albums are WORTH, HOPE and ELEKTRODELICA! This album speaks to the mind as well as the spirit. The lyrics are simple and straighforward and the music is pumped with energy and a sincere love for life. "PEACE" is truly a masterpiece among the rest of electronic art out there. Thank you Claude, Paul, Gary (& Dania) for this epic adventure into the mind, body and spirit!

5.0 out of 5 stars A Definite SynthPop Classic, July 23, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: Peace (Audio CD)
This is one of those rare CD's where every track is practically a masterpiece. Their sound is upbeat and fun on the more danceable singles like "Living In Oblivion" and "Jubilation". Their sound is deep and emotionally-stirring on other songs. I own all of their works and think that they are the epitome of what synthpop should sound like.

I've had this CD for a long time and just recently seen them in concert. On the CD, the music is very soothing and easy to listen to. The concert showed the loud and energetic side to Anything Box. Anything Box ROCKS!

I love anything box and this album was the first I bought of theirs. Since then, I have purchased all of thier albums. "PEACE" and "WORTH" are the best of them all if I had to choose. Every song in this album is a major hit. The voices of Claude S. and Diana are just magnificent. One of the best albums of all times. Synth-pop MASTERPIECE.

5.0 out of 5 stars Still My Favorite Band, June 3, 1998
By
This review is from: Peace (Audio CD)
I saw Anything Box in concert in Dallas when I was in college once. They came before Cause & Effect. Everyone went fanatic when Anything Box was on stage and booed Cause & Effect off the stage. If you haven't heard this CD by Anything Box, then you just have to buy it. "Living in Oblivion" is on this CD. It is the band's most popular song, and it is my favorite song of all time! Anything Box is still producing records, but you have to buy directly from them. They decided to break with the mainstream music industry to allow them greater creative freedom. I have everything they have ever released (except the "Living in Oblivion" Maxi-CD which I will pay good money for). BUY THIS CD!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful Synthpop, January 25, 2011
This review is from: Peace (Audio CD)
The whole thing just sounds beautiful, I would recommend it to any 80's synthpop fan, (even though it's from 1990) and it's one of my favorite albums...
Anything Box seemingly follows in the footsteps of Depeche Mode, except a lot more joyfully, after all, the album is called "Peace"...I got this album only because of Living in Oblivion, and the rest of the album was just as incredible. Best tracks are Living in Oblivion, When We Lie, Our Dreams, and Just One Day!
