A readable history of the peace sign, well-illustrated. Baby Boomers will enjoy this look at the origin and uses of that thing they used to draw on their notebook covers during health class.

This was a Christmas gift for my niece... I'd noticed her wearing various items with the peace symbol so I ordered this book. She is crazy about it... it is filled with tons of fantastic photos and informative history about this symbol. Groovy!

I really enjoyed reading this book last month, and learned much at the same time. I kept it by my bed, and found the history of the peace sign, and the great images and graphics, a welcome source of at least a little hope and inspiration, especially after watching the evening's national and world news programs. As corporations continue to profit from the merchandise of death, and the world faces as uncertain a future as ever, the peace sign will continue to be a show of hope and defiance against those who live by the sword (and those who make and sell the swords)!

From infancy to today which includes the entire world and their acceptance. Usage of the peace sign for personal and professional gains. Longevity of the peace sign which included many short stories from personal views.

4.0 out of 5 stars A fascinating part of history, September 24, 2009

This review is from: Peace: The Biography of a Symbol (Hardcover)
To a 60s student radical this book is a trip down memory lane. I never wondered before about the origins of the peace symbol, but now I know, and it is a fascinating story. This book has many fine pictures of a medley of colorful peace signs displayed in a variety of places. Nostalgia for those who were there, important history for those who were not. The Kent State massacre is mentioned, including the heartrending Pulitzer Prize photo of the distraught girl beside a dead student face down on the ground. However, in a (deliberate?) oversight no mention is made that heavily armed National Guardsmen killed the four students and wounded nine others.
