This review is from: Peace, Love, And Total Fucking Destruction (Audio CD)
Fun and grindcore are rarely uttered in the same sentence unless it's in reference to the, "grindcore show was so much fun!" TFD are the side project and brainchild of Brutal Truth drummer Rich Hoak, and he is not slowing down one bit. This definitely is not Brutal Truth style grindcore which is exactly the point of TFD. Much like pound cake, this is heavy and soft at the same time! It's the equivelant of Minor Threat or the Circle Jerks playing grindcore. It's really punk rock with insane blast beats, semi melodic singing/screaming, and a fun atmosphere! The lyrics are quasi-existential, anti authoritarian, and anarchistic/nihilistic rants, provided by Hoak himself and layered to give a sing-along type delivery. This sounds like something that would be recorded in 1988 or 1989 on Relativity records and gives the listener a nostalgiac feeling that simply rules! My only gripe is that the album is a tad too short, but saying that about a grindcore album is darn near blasphemy! And I wish the guitar was turned up a little in the mix, but that would take away from the throwback style recording so I'm torn about it. Anyway, if you like punk and grindcore you should hear this, and if you only like one or the other of those genres, this may convert you!
