From Library Journal
Bearing a title that includes the word peace in both languages, this volume is the by-product of a joint venture by Russian and American scholars begun in 1988. Presenting commentaries from the classical world to 1945, it is sure to find a prominent place in "peace studies" at several levels of instruction, from secondary schools to the university. The documents range from literary to "official" voices. They are drawn from the works of poets and politicians, diplomats and philosophers. Predictably, with an enterprise such as this, there will be debate as to the selection process. The document collection itself, however, can't help but offer stimulating choices to a relatively broad readership. Highly recommended for general and academic libraries.
