Editorial Reviews

2006 digitally remastered set that combines 2 original albums by the late, great patriarch of The Staples Singers in one double disc package. "Peace To The Neighborhood" was originally released in 1992 on the Pointblank label and combines joyous soul and gospel with swampy funk and blues and features the rest of The Staples, Bonnie Raitt and Jackson Browne. "Father Father" was originally released in 1994 on Pointblank and won a Grammy for Best Contemporary Blues Album that year. Pop Staples was an amazing 78 years old when he recorded this album.

From movie soundtracks to jazz stylists such as Bill Frisell, electronicly tremeloed blues guitar is very popular lately. Staples, undisputedly, is the man who started this sound, (virtually on the day the effect was invented in the fifties). A contemporary of blues greats such as Robert Johnson, it seems as if Pops may have lessened his legendary status by living a long healthy life and having success on the "Top 40" with his daughters. Staples is as much of an original as any of the lost-lost legends
