I finished this book in a day. Of course, nothing else got done, the cats and my husband went hungry, the dishes didn't get washed and the floor is waiting to be reintroduced to the vacuum. I've read Mr. Sides' other books in the series. The first books were good reads and got me hooked. It's been great fun to see the characters and his writing style evolve. This book was riviting, I couldn't click to the next page fast enough.

I gotta tell you that I first heard about this series of books a few years back and was not at all interested and then I fell face first into "the end of the world as we know it" when I became a fan of Glenn Beck and took off my blinders and really saw what is happening to this country and to our so called civilized world. As a military veteran I have found this series to be a blast to read. The character development is such that you really get to know them and it hurts you when one of them is hurt or God forbid killed. The author makes it a point to let you know the good guy dosen't always win or live to see tomorrow. Do what I did and get the entire series and read them one right after the other. I couldn't stop myself. I went from one book straight into the next one. Thank God for my Kindle.

am going to help the Beginners out on this one. You can get the first one for ANYWHERE from zero to 99cents. or Save even bigger dough and buy them in groups of threes1-3 4-6 7-9 get those groups and save big.Hey if you even half way think you like the sample. Then fork out the bucks and save. So many have that it seems to be the only way to fly. Unless you have a Peacekeeper car. I want one I want one Heck I just want a stack of metal and I will build my own magic flying carpet ride. Ricky has to have been born and raised in the south. That is why we have a hero with the name of Jim Bob. No his name is not Jim Bob. It is just JIM. Still it give you a pause. On a personal basis I loved each and every one of the books in this 9 part series the action was always on the beat and the typos or mistakes were very minimal Yes I did find a few things like reading about the mans piers instead of the mans peers meaning his contemporaries. Still that does not take away from the whole experience of the reading of these great group of books. I loved them loved them loved them. It takes you from the days leading up to the Apocalypses and then to the years trying to bring about a recovery. There are starts and stops and false starts and stops Let us hope that it could be such a great help from technology. All in all you miss this series and you loose a great read and some thought provoking ideas. dray

So far I've read the first seven books in this series, and I'm hooked. I'm ready to start book 8; all I can say is, Ricky Sides, keep writing!I've come to really like most of the characters. They're consistent from book to book. The farther I go into the series, the more sci-fi it feels to me, but I like sci-fi, so I'm not complaining. I like the idea of this type of fighting machine and wish the US really had one--or thousands. In some series, after the third or fourth book they start to repeat themselves. Not these. They keep surprising. I'm going to copy and paste this review for the next five books. It'll give me more time for reading ;) I look forward to many more books from Ricky Sides.

Bigger and badder,
By CivWar64 (Bob) (NY, USA) - See all my reviews

This book is all about bigger and badder. We get more technology - the peacekeepers make a battleship, drones and fighters, and the bad guys have tanks and helicopters. We get slavers and a man who would be king. We get an ingenious solution to the question of how shoot down a helicopter above you when everything you have points downwards. And there is a great hand-to-hand battle for the culmination. The only negatives I had were that the peacekeepers start to act even more like vigilantes in this novel, and it brings up the question of when is it appropriate to be judge, jury and executioner? The novel does address this, but it could have gone into more depth on the subject. Also, the battles seem a bit too easy for the peacekeepers and over too quickly for me. I would have liked the major battles to not have ended so quickly. The action was very good, which is probably why I wanted it to go on longer! I would rate this book somewhere between a 3 and a 4, and I gave it a 4 rating for the fact that it IS better than the first two books and does a very good job of expanding the peacekeeper universe and not just rehashing previous novels. It also does a good job of being self contained and you won't be lost if you haven't read the first two novels in the series.

I've read the first three books in the series, and while I enjoy the overall plot there are many details that could be improved. I think the author could do a bit more research on military tactics and equipment. I also keep seeing a lack of growth in most the characters, they lack depth. The world depicted gets simplified and its like watching a bad star trek original series episode.. the 'red shirt' will die in the beginning, and the capt. or one of the 'big' characters will have a big fight and one or two 'tough' choices, and then its over.

The writing must be intentionally old style as I can never picture people talking like they do in the book unless I am watching Little House on the Prairie with my daughter...I say this with a wink because I like it - it's different. Fun summer reading what can I say.
