5.0 out of 5 stars The "real" start of a great series
While I enjoyed the first book on how the Peacekeepers were born, the second book in the series is really where things start to come together on a fun to read series. I've read all 7 books written at this point, and I can highly recommend that you keep going.

They only get better with each one!

2.0 out of 5 stars I don't know if I can make it to book 3
I was fairly forgiving in book 1 since it was a first launch into this genre. But wow things didn't improve that much. The editing was much better but that is the easiest flaw to overlook. The dialog is still a bit odd and never really sounds like people really talk. I won't give less than 2 stars because I truly respect the effort that people go through to write a novel...

4.0 out of 5 stars A good sequel to Book 1, July 3, 2010
This review is from: The Peacekeepers, Some Gave All. Book 2. (Kindle Edition)
This second book of the Peacekeeper series builds on the first book. It is actually sort of 3 acts, so it provides some good variety.

Act I - an old nemesis;
Act II - Circus Animals (and who doesn't like a circus?) and
Act III - a set-peace battle against the Marauders, only this time much bigger and badder than before!

We even get an upgrade to the Peacekeeper itself, learn a hidden new feature and have a primary new scientist join the adventure.

If you liked the first book, this is a good read, as it continues the saga without just repeating the story from Book 1.

am going to help the Beginners out on this one. You can get the first one for ANYWHERE from zero to 99cents. or Save even bigger dough and buy them in groups of threes1-3 4-6 7-9 get those groups and save big.

Hey if you even half way think you like the sample. Then fork out the bucks and save. So many have that it seems to be the only way to fly. Unless you have a Peacekeeper car. I want one I want one Heck I just want a stack of metal and I will build my own magic flying carpet ride.

Ricky has to have been born and raised in the south. That is why we have a hero with the name of Jim Bob. No his name is not Jim Bob. It is just JIM.
Still it give you a pause.

On a personal basis I loved each and every one of the books in this 9 part series the action was always on the beat and the typos or mistakes were very minimal Yes I did find a few things like reading about the mans piers instead of the mans peers meaning his contemporaries. Still that does not take away from the whole experience of the reading of these great group of books. I loved them loved them loved them. It takes you from the days leading up to the Apocalypses and then to the years trying to bring about a recovery. There are starts and stops and false starts and stops Let us hope that it could be such a great help from technology.

All in all you miss this series and you loose a great read and some thought provoking ideas.

dray

5.0 out of 5 stars Peacekeepers just got better :), August 8, 2011

So far I've read the first seven books in this series, and I'm hooked. I'm ready to start book 8; all I can say is, Ricky Sides, keep writing!

I've come to really like most of the characters. They're consistent from book to book. The farther I go into the series, the more sci-fi it feels to me, but I like sci-fi, so I'm not complaining. I like the idea of this type of fighting machine and wish the US really had one--or thousands.

In some series, after the third or fourth book they start to repeat themselves. Not these. They keep surprising.

I'm going to copy and paste this review for the next five books. It'll give me more time for reading ;) I look forward to many more books from Ricky Sides.

5.0 out of 5 stars Another Great Read by Ricky Sides, February 12, 2010

I finished this book in record time. I enjoyed the first Peacekeeper book very much and this one more. Even though I went right from book 1 to book 2 I appreciated the synopsis of the book 1 at the beginning. However,I hate to say it, I didn't enjoy the "coming attractions" at the beginning of the book as much. Even though it didn't give away any of the surprises in the book, I like going from page to page not knowing what's coming next. I've alrleady started book 3 and knew to skim quickly through this part. That said, the characters continued to grow on me and I enjoyed meeting the new peacekeepers, too. I found myself biting my nails, cheering and crying at different times while reading. I even snuck in a few pages while at work because I couldn't wait to find out what happened next. I think I've even got my husband hooked! Now, my only worry is what I'll do when I finish book 5; I've already bought them all (I must read more slowly).

I gotta tell you that I first heard about this series of books a few years back and was not at all interested and then I fell face first into "the end of the world as we know it" when I became a fan of Glenn Beck and took off my blinders and really saw what is happening to this country and to our so called civilized world. As a military veteran I have found this series to be a blast to read. The character development is such that you really get to know them and it hurts you when one of them is hurt or God forbid killed. The author makes it a point to let you know the good guy dosen't always win or live to see tomorrow. Do what I did and get the entire series and read them one right after the other. You won't be dissapointed that is until you run out of books to read. I can't wait until the next one. These books are just what you need for those long lonely nights.

2.0 out of 5 stars I don't know if I can make it to book 3, January 13, 2011

I was fairly forgiving in book 1 since it was a first launch into this genre. But wow things didn't improve that much. The editing was much better but that is the easiest flaw to overlook. The dialog is still a bit odd and never really sounds like people really talk. I won't give less than 2 stars because I truly respect the effort that people go through to write a novel.

There is no real story here in the traditional sense of the word. The protagonists simply go from scenario to scenario devastating their opponents and along the way they get even more cool gadgets. This time it is about a trillion sets of super armor and ridiculous upgrades to a ship that can't exist anyway. If I make it to book 3 I assume that Pol will figure out how to make the ship invisible. All of these plus things like the newly found chain gun in the nose of the ship are perfect examples of why these series break down. It is okay to make the protagonists struggle. They don't have to get all the cool stuff just when they need it most. This adds depth and flavor to an otherwise disappointing book.

So far I estimate the peacekeepers have killed somewhere north of 2000 people and some psycho circus animals at a cost of 9 of their own (not counting Reggie's early kills). In a fight against approx. 1000 banditos on motorcycles, a team of 150 peacekeepers wipes them out and loses 3 people. Give me a break!

The closing ceremony where the young private is awarded a medal for defending her squad mate is a perfect example of where these books are falling apart for me. We don't even get her story except as an afterthought. Its like Mr.Sides realized at the last minute that he can't keep doing these silly promotions and awards for the main characters so he needed to give one to someone else. Let's give one to some last minute character and throw her story of valor in at the last minute.

These books don't cost much so I might go for number 3 but if Mr.Sides can't find some way to add some depth and struggle to the protags, I am done.

Just a thought...what happens when the food runs out? There is so little discussion of this simple concept. Every now and then we get a glimpse at a small town that plowed a field. This is not going to do squat for the number of people still surviving. At some point the food will run out. I imagine at that point the protags will find 600 untouched warehouses of food and toilet paper that no one knew about.

See my point?
