5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent treatment of a neglected subject, July 6, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Colt Peacemaker British Model (Hardcover)
This book, along with the same writer's later treatment of the Colt SAA in .476 Eley caliber, is an excellent treatment of a neglected aspect of the history of what is arguably the most famous handgun of all time. As far as I can tell, aspects of these guns are treated here that are available in very few other places.

The book also is the basis for some interesting questions. For example, was the "long grip" variation, that mimicked the 1860 Army's grip frame only available in Great Britain? I am aware of at least a few "American" SAAs that were fitted with 1860 Army grip frames but I have no idea whether these frames were factory-installed or were "retrofits". Also, neither this book nor its .476 Eley sucessor provides "war stories" about the adventures (and there must have been many) that these guns and their owners had. Are there no accounts where the firearms that were used were either mentioned or at least strongly implied?
