1.0 out of 5 stars Piece of junk. Don't purchase!, November 20, 2008
This review is from: Peachtree By Sage First Accounting 2009 (CD-ROM)
This product has obvious problems that make it a poor choice. Examples:

Delivered reports are available and some are useful but poorly formatted. Cash disbursements journal truncates the date because the column width is too narrow. How useful is "3/12/0" or "10/10/" for a date? Check register has the same date format problems. In addition the "Amount" field is too short. If your amount is under $1,000.00 then you will have no problems. For those of us who occasionally have larger numbers, the field truncates to seven spaces. Example: 11,113,380.00" is reported as "11,113," Seriously, when they put this product out, was there any intelligent review? I doubt it. And, these are from their delivered sample company and sample reports, not my company and not my reports. They could not even get the sample company to print correctly, but they could leave 3 inches of blank paper on the right side of the page instead of making the columns wide enough to report actual data.

So, change the column width. Help tells you how. Only it does not work on most reports including the ones above. The sample in the manual does not look like what the program gives you. Probably it does if you buy the most expensive version. For this verison you are out of luck.

So, call or email the good people in customer service. Nice idea. They want $5 per minute or $69 for the first month and $29 each month thereafter. And they will almost certainly tell me I should have bought the more expensive version instead of expecting this version to work.

Oh, and by the way. This version does not do payroll. But you can purchase the service for an extra monthly fee.

This program is a piece of junk. Peachtree was a good company 10 yr ago. What happened?

1.0 out of 5 stars Wouldn't recommend Peachtree for serious small business user..., January 19, 2009

Sauna Enthusiast "Chuck" (Lake Superior, WI --- USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Peachtree By Sage First Accounting 2009 (CD-ROM)
I'm not the book-keeper or accountant at this small business, but I have worked with customer info, quotes and invoices in Peachtree 2006 version. Almost any move in this program is NOT intuitive or user friendly. It is like a virtual arm-wrestling match with a poorly engineered program from 1995. There are far too many limits on customizing quotes and invoices so they make sense to the potential customers. This version can't even auto input the customer's email address on quotes/invoices(not even an option in setup). The accountant here complains a lot about the software, mainly about uneditable defaults from initial program setup, by a previous user so now quarterly/annually totals are never correct. I would hope that newer versions after Peachtree 2006 are better, probably only possible if they rebuilt the program from the ground up.

1.0 out of 5 stars Still on Hold!, January 28, 2009
This review is from: Peachtree By Sage First Accounting 2009 (CD-ROM)
I have plenty of time since I am on the phone using my FREE 30 DAY SUPPORT!
First, after a few transfers, they put you on hold for 30 minutes, THEN say "due to high call volume...blah..blah...it will over an hour!". A trick taken from the "two waiting room routine" at the doctor's office.
I am not an accountant but have used enough software that I rarely have to call tech support(if ever). The name "First Accounting" gave me the impression it was for small business's and user friendly to a degree. I called once and they took me to place(I would of never found myself) to put a check in a box. I am still having trouble with a simple account balance question.
There is a real need for a basic bookkeeping software without too many bells and whistles. I have searched but can not find one. Basically that is all I need to start my taxes for now. I thought I could grow into this software and use more of it as I go. Another rip off(Quicken got me the first time). I want my money back.
I need to search for a headset now due to my increasing neck pain. Ouch!
If I slip and miss this call it will be another 2 hours on my day off.
Hey peachtree boneheads the music and commercials don't help!

3.0 out of 5 stars Are you upgrading?, November 30, 2008
This review is from: Peachtree By Sage First Accounting 2009 (CD-ROM)
I have not yet used the product but during installation it warned that if you were upgrading from a version earlier than 2004 it could not make use of your old company files. That was a suprise to me. I was of course upgrading from the 2003 version. It would not use my old company files just like it warned. The old version was still working OK for me until my Internet Explorer got upgraded and then it thought I didn't have Explorer on my computer so it wouldn't run Peachtree. I thought this would be the easiest fix and after a brief discussion with Peachtree sales dept. they recommended it also.
