Best in the price range, not for everyone,
By
This review is from: Peachtree By Sage Pro Accounting 2007 (CD-ROM)
Having worked for several small companies going back 15 years I have used many accounting software programs, all the way back to Peachtree for DOS. I have also used Quickbooks which is the competitive product, sort of. If you are an accountant Peachtree at this price is the best product available. In addition Sages full line of products allows you to step up to a higher end program(if the need ever arises) with the same look and feel as Peachtree so if your company grows bigger the learning curve in the long run could be less. This version, as it is, does most things programs costing thousands of dollars more will do.
It is definately easiest for those that know accounting. For example, someone mentioned the cost of the Payroll service and how much it is but you can do ALL your payroll for free using the user-maintained tables and tax rates. I find it simple and incredibly functionable and do payroll for free. However, Quickbooks is easier for a novice, I have clients that use quickbooks and even though Peachtree is a better product I would not even mentioning switching because it would be more headache than it's worth. Also, Peachtree is not as forgiving with errors, which is a good thing to me. I will say clents with Quickbooks generally have a complete mess in there file as quickbooks makes it very easy to just do watever you want and I'm amazed what I find in there sometimes. You basically have 2 options in this price range, 1) get Peachtree and take the time to learn it. or 2) If you want an easy out of the box solution just get Quickbooks as it will do what most people want it to do with less learning. Where Peachtree slacks(and makes a 5 start program 4 stars) is customer service is pay after 30 days and the fervor to copy-protect can sometimes make installation a hassle, especially on a network. Also, 2007 is only semi-compatible with Vista and requires a special download though the 2008 version out in June 07 is "Works with Vista" compatible or so they say. Peachtree is powerful, likely more powerful and harder to learn out of the box than a sole proprietorship would need. If you are a business big enough to have an accountant or bookkeeper on staff Peachtree would likely be something to strongly consider. I personally think it's a great product.

Peachtree Pro hard to install - not for me!,
By
This review is from: Peachtree By Sage Pro Accounting 2007 (CD-ROM)
I purchased Peachtree Pro to use in my small business. Right out of the box, I am having problems installing the software. After three attempts to load it, I finally called Peachtree Customer Service and am in no better shape than I was before I called. After waiting on hold for greater than 30 minutes, I worked with a tech specialist for over an hour, but no resolution to the problem could be found. The main issue is "conflicts with firewalls." Even with firewalls disabled, the program would not load. I have now wasted more than 6 hours and still do not have a reliable accounting program.

Vista Compatibility,
By

It is Vista Compatible! There is a patch for the 2007 software.
I've been using this program for a long time now and prefer it over all the other accounting programs. It does have a few quirks, but nothing that someone with an accounting background and knowledge of the software can't tweak!

Difficult for a novice,
This review is from: Peachtree By Sage Pro Accounting 2007 (CD-ROM)
I have found this accounting software to be very inflexible and unforgiving when it comes to mistakes. Although my CPA likes it I would have been better off with Quick Books....

Poor Quality; Poor Support; Poor Product,
By
This review is from: Peachtree By Sage Pro Accounting 2007 (CD-ROM)
I purchased the software for my small business with the intention of upgrading from quick books.
The Peachtree software states it can convert data from a quick books file. I had numerous problems with this feature, leading to 3 calls to technical support which took way too long to resolve. I was on hold for at least 25 minutes for each call before someone answered my call. This combined with the fact that you only get a paltry 30 days of tech support before the company tries to sell you a service support plan shows an utter lack of regard for providing a quality product for customers. My data would not fully convert because I opted for the cash accounting method when using quick books, and peachtree requires a 4 digit account number for every blessed account and sub account and sub account of a subaccount. In short, the program is too rigid and can't be customized to give me what I want in an accounting platform. Service was lousy--after a cumulative 2 hours on hold or on the phone with a support rep the problems were not resolved. I recommend against this software!

Peachtree problems,

A lovely program, if you want to pay a fortune to get their fancy formulas for computing payroll taxes ($259.00 year & no they do not prorate) All the tax charts in the world will not help you, as the formulas use only specific words (not regular spreadsheet computations). If you want to track bills, invoice & inventory it might be okay, but there are better programs available for alot less.

Runs awesome under VISTA with Virtual PC!,
By
This review is from: Peachtree By Sage Pro Accounting 2007 (CD-ROM)
We are actually running Peachtree Permium Accounting 2006 for Manufacturing, but I assume the same applies. Sage indicates that 2006 is not supported for VISTA and that 2007 may be...problem solved: Microsoft Virtual PC.[...]
Peachtree runs better on the new hardware/software config than it did on our previous machine with just XP Pro. [...]

Support Poor - Sage doesn't update,
By
This review is from: Peachtree By Sage Pro Accounting 2007 (CD-ROM)
The folks who say Peachtree is NOT compatible with Windows Vista - ARE 100% CORRECT. My company does software, networking, servers, etc. and Peachtree is by far the worst we've seen. You can get it to run but it will be far from stable (read as: work one day and not the next). But by far the worst problem is Sage software (Peachtree's parent company). In addition to Peachtree they own a number of larger accounting software titles and they, not Peachtree, will get priority in all new development. So all the owners and purchasers of Peachtree will just have to wait in line. If you buy this package and try to run on Windows Vista, don't say you were not warned. To those who say it will run on Vista, I say don't give folks false hope, there is a big difference in being able to run and being able to run correctly. Now if I can just get down off this soapbox without falling....

I learned it in a weekend,
By
This review is from: Peachtree By Sage Pro Accounting 2007 (CD-ROM)
Had to learn this program in a weekend. Then, clean up the books by Monday. I did it without much sleep.
Once you learn it's style of entry, its fast. I spend no more than an hour a day on the Peach now with no book keeper. I bought the support contract and have only used it once in six months. The guy helped me modify what printed on the payroll and a/p checks. I have since modified my financial statements on my own. Maybe my success was 'cuz I know accounting. All this bitchin about PeachTree seems weird??!! I guess you love it or hate it.

I bought this software at Amazon. Then I found out there was a free download copy from this company. Should have known it earlier.
