5.0 out of 5 stars Dreams of Peacock Glory
I can't say enough about how helpful Mr. Larsen's book is. Peacock Bass Explosions is so comprehensive. Mr. Larsen has been to nearly every place in the world that you can catch a Peacock. He is one of the world's leading authorities on catching this species. This book takes you step by step through the techniques for catching Peacocks in each country and region...

3.0 out of 5 stars Helpful but not perfect.
I am planning a trip to Peru to fish for pavon (peacock bass)and found this book helpful but not perfect. I will be fly fishing and the book contains a chapter on flyfishing for pavon. However it did not picture the flies it recommends so that all there is to go on for acquiring or tying a fly is a name alone. The general descriptions of the pavon and its biology were...

I can't say enough about how helpful Mr. Larsen's book is. Peacock Bass Explosions is so comprehensive. Mr. Larsen has been to nearly every place in the world that you can catch a Peacock. He is one of the world's leading authorities on catching this species. This book takes you step by step through the techniques for catching Peacocks in each country and region. Maps are also included, and he fills the pages with tales of his own experiences, both good and bad. There are many on-line sites and magazine articles dealing with Peacocks, but no other source has given such complete and detailed information. Larsen is also a great story teller. His tales of battles with the venerable species leave you with an urge to call your favorite outfitter or travel agent and attempt to tackle this monster fish yourself. When you finish this book, you too will have Dreams of Peacock Glory.

The general descriptions of the pavon and its biology were helpful and not technical. The book barely mentioned Peru and seemed heavily focused on Brazil and Venizuela. But as a first time pavon fisherman, the book overall was for me fairly useful.
