Editorial Reviews

From Library Journal

Unlike studies which focus on theory or practice in adult education, this book presents a set of skills and techniques for self-education. Written by the author of The Lifelong Learner: A Guide to Self-Development ( LJ 9/15/77), it aims to unlock the potential of a learner's mind by teaching fast, efficient, thorough, and productive learning skills. As the book describes, peak learning--or, the "realist education,"--is independent, unconstrained, noninstitutionalized development incorporating individual learning styles. The book's ideas are presented in a simple and easy-to-understand manner. Recommended for education collections.

Ronald Gross is a master teacher who understands the fundamental value of learning. Peak Learning offers the building blocks to a lifelong learning adventure. I recommend this book for anyone looking to make order out of the chaos caused by the information overload of our times.

4.0 out of 5 stars This book taught me a lot about how I think., July 13, 1997
By A Customer
This review is from: Peak Learning: A Master Course in Learning How to Learn (Paperback)
Ronald Gross clearly knows what he is writing about, and has the ability to write about it in ways that anyone can understand. I learned more about the way I and others learn from this book than in numerous psychology classes. But the one thing that I got from this book is an enthusiasm for learning. The basic premise being that you do not have to go to university to get a degree, but rather that you have the choice of what and how you will learn. Your University of the World, makes you just as educated as any degree. This jewel should be embraced by everyone. My only disappointment with this book is that it is of uneven quality. Some of the explanations and exercises are excellent insights into the human mind. Others appear to be withour merit and without explanation.

2.0 out of 5 stars Covers the basics well but has been poorly edited., September 1, 1996
By A Customer
This review is from: Peak Learning: A Master Course in Learning How to Learn (Paperback)
Gross covers plenty of territory in this primer for new students but the condescending tone grated on my nerves. Obviously the editor of the book failed to use Gross's theories since the editing is not up to snuff.
