4.0 out of 5 stars Nice stand!
My trusty heavy duty Belmonte fold-up stand kicked the bucket and I went out looking for a stand that could stand just as tall.

I thought I was going to get a Manhasset Voyager, but seeing it in person I was disappointed with its height (I'm 6'1), I really want a stand at eye level when I am standing.

I tried out the Peak SMS-20 and I found that it...

3.0 out of 5 stars Sturdy but not durable
I have had this stand for about a year, and had the same issue with the flaps on the music table not folding easily. Over the last two weeks, plastic pieces have been falling off the hinges and today one of the flaps came off all the way. Great look for the price but wish it didn't break!

4.0 out of 5 stars Nice stand!, March 9, 2008

My trusty heavy duty Belmonte fold-up stand kicked the bucket and I went out looking for a stand that could stand just as tall.

I thought I was going to get a Manhasset Voyager, but seeing it in person I was disappointed with its height (I'm 6'1), I really want a stand at eye level when I am standing.

I tried out the Peak SMS-20 and I found that it was quite a bit taller than the Manhasset and almost purchased it until a sales rep pointed out the "tall" version: SMS-50.

OMG. The tall version TOWERS well above me! It extends just as tall as the SMS-20 at first, but then there's a second pole that extends much further. Quite nice.

The only thing I'm disappointed in is that the folding flaps of the stand on my stand don't seem to want to fold and unfold without a lot of pressure. I'm almost afraid I can break the stand. Hopefully it'll be easier as I use the stand more often.

Other tidbits:

Latches lock stand height/legs vs screwing things tight.

Can independently unfold legs (doesn't auto-extend with base).

The stand tilt is a screwing thing, but it's on the LEFT, takes a little getting used to.

Mine came with a bag.

5.0 out of 5 stars sturdy folding alternative to clunky black metal music stand, December 28, 2008
By
This review is from: Peak Music Stands Portable Music Stand Black
Got this as a gift and although I haven't used it yet, I did take it out of the bag and put it together (the instructions make for some amusing reading...). It went together easily; all the adjusters were nice and tight (no spinning or wobbling like my little old wire folding music stand); and although rather large for a folding stand, is MUCH more convenient and lightweight than my black metal Manhasset that I used to have to take to gigs (which filled up one entire side of my tiny car, with the seats folded down). Seems like it will be easier to mark music on than the Manhasset, which had those weird bumps across the top half. This is a solid surface once assembled. It even has two tiny swivel arms on the ledge to keep music from slipping off. Can't wait to *have* to use it! Love that it came with a storage bag with a strap for carrying.

UPDATE 2011:

A piece broke off of the tray part, but still useable. I don't think this should have happened, especially considering how infrequently I use it. Also, the tray is thicker than the metal stands, so you can not clip on a springy wire pencil holder thingie (I don't know what they are called, but look like a little coil). Other than that, I still love it. In fact, I have not used my Manhassets in so long I am finally going to Craigslist them!!!! yey!

4.0 out of 5 stars Peak stand, August 2, 2010

This is a good solution for a professional needing a light compact stand with a solid back for gigs. The only reason I gave 4 stars is the bulkiness of the stand. I've been using the Peterson stand which folds into a small box shape. The Peak is sturdier.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best Portable Music Stand, July 31, 2010

The Peak stand is the best I've ever used. It is the only one with a solid top that is still portable that I have ever seen. It folds up neatly and though weighs very little it's been stable, plus it sets up very quickly.

5.0 out of 5 stars It's sturdy and easy to carry around!, December 1, 2007
This review is from: Peak Music Stands Portable Music Stand Black
This is an absolutely wonderful music stand. It's sturdy but completely portable since it can be folded into a storage bag (about 35in x 7 in x 7in). If you like portable and sturdy music stands, this is definitely the one for you.

4.0 out of 5 stars Portable Music Stand, July 27, 2010

I was looking for a folding music stand that is more durable than the wire metal folding stands. I found it in the Peak Music Stand. The bonus was the case that comes with it. I am very happy with this stand and would recommend it to anyone needing to transport a stand for personal use. I own a Manhassat music stand and really like it but it is hard to transport. The Peak music stand fills the bill!

4.0 out of 5 stars Solid and portable, July 5, 2010

This is the stand I have been waiting for. The first concert I played at after receiving the stand was outside with 20 - 30 mph wind gusts. My entire folder was blown off the stand but the stand itself never budged. It is a snap to set up and take down and is quite light for its size. My only complaint is that it doesn't fold up as small as I would like but the included carry bag makes it easy to transport.

5.0 out of 5 stars Huge step up from my old one, June 12, 2010

I had a stagg chrome folding stand and it held music and went up and down just fine. This music stand is so adjustable, you can adjust the tilt of it, the height and of course you can fold it up. I'm sure this will last a long time and I don't know of anything better than it. This comes with an instruction manual and a bag to carry it in or to put it in if you need to put it aside.
