Product Description

The Peak Wireless 2.4-Inch Back-Up Camera System lets you actually see what is behind you--even if it is in the blind spot below your back window. Now you can know for sure if there's a car, bike, or child behind your vehicle before backing up. This easy-to-install system includes a color camera unit that attaches to the back of your license plate. This camera comes equipped with a 2.4 GHz wireless transmitter that sends video to the 2.4-inch color LCD monitor that mounts on your dashboard. The system offers a wide 110-degree field of view, and the camera is weatherproofed for a long life. It's perfect for cars, trucks, SUVs, RVs, and trailers.

This camera died one month after the 3 month warranty expired. I called and e-mailed the company to see if they could help me diagnose the problem and get it fixed. Maybe I could purchase a new transmitter, if that was the problem. I've received no response. So, I'm left with this junk that I spent time and money to install. Even had to modify the cheap camera base and drill into my truck's console, and now it appears I have no recourse but to throw it all away. This certainly wasn't worth all the aggravation, and I would suggest you buy from a more responsible manufacturer.

I received the unit as a gift, that I requested, and installed it in a reasonable time frame. Had no problems, and it works perfect. The monitor has good resolution, and a very clear picture. I made a couple of modifications to the instructions. I mounted the monitor on my ash tray which is never used. I drilled the little plastic pin out that holds the plastic suction cup. I was left with the shell which I drilled two holes for two small screws and attached it to the ash tray. You still have all the adjustment you need to move the monitor to your likeing. This made the wiring simple. Plug one end into the lighter, fold the wires neatly, stick them in the ash tray, close and insert the other end into the monitor. Attached to the ash tray, it is hidden from sight, and not mistaken for a GPS if stuck to the window as sold. I have a 2003 Tundra with a Leer camper shell. I used velcro on the transmitter and stuck it on the wall of the shell. Really grabs tight! Fired it up the first time, and had to move the transmitter a little higher than first attached, and it was perfect. Don't see how you can go wrong with the unit. It is even perfect at night.

Probably a good camera system for a car or van where the transmitter can be mounted inside. But not ideal for a pick up truck where it has to be mounted outside where it can get wet. Only lasted until the first rain, then toast.

I like my new backup camera. I got it primarily for hitching up trailers, but I also have a very mobile and quick 2 year old. She is usually in the vehicle or house when backing the truck, but I like the extra measure of safety.

I have not used it yet to hitch up, but I think it will do just fine.

I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 for two reasons: 1) The transmitter could not be mounted inside the taillight compartment because, surrounded by metal, the screen was not getting much signal at all. 2) The cord is rather short, and on a pickup, it is difficult to get the transmitter to a relatively weather-proof area. Instructions say to mount it in the trunk, but my truck doesn't have a trunk, of course.

I would still recommend it.

It's better than nothing if you have plenty of light but certainly no substitute for a full sized good one. 100 degree camera but still can't view something just 2 feet to the side close by, so you could still hit something behind you. The blind area to the side should be visible in your mirrors so it doesn't take the place of a full visual mirror inspection before backing up.

The monitor gets a little blinky (on then off) sometimes and goes snowy on occasion. I find I have to pull the power in and out to get a good connection. This may either get worse or better as time goes on.

I have a '09 Charger and found it easy to install by removing the top screws on the bumper (the black push in and a black rubber stop on top where the trunk lid hits) then slid the wire up under the bumper lip to the hole for the tail light. The reverse wires needed on this car were located on the tail light bundle as White/Green-(hot), and Black/White-(ground).

Knowing the whole idea of this system is quick installation. No such luck by my own situation. The reviews reflect a need to have the antenna close to the LCD monitor. Being inside the vehicle is important as well. Our task was to mount one on my F350 super Cab Pick up and an additional camera on our 5th wheel. The only way to get an extra camera is to buy a second set (well now I do have a backup monitor , antenna dc power supply). I got one of each size screen. There is a wire coming from the camera which is only 9 1/2 feet. With all the twists and turns I was 1 1/2 feet from the back of the cab. Because I want to be able to switch from the 5th wheel to the truck I put a junction box inside my bed. Still I need to got to the cab. But no more wire. The company sells 25 ' extension cords, but Amazon doesn't carry them. The only company was[...], back East. The cords were $19.95 and I thought that was reasonable and I would underestimate I needed two. The shipping was a week because I declined the next day cost $90.00. The cords are the same cord with the same connectors and the manufacture says you can use up to three without compromising the signal.Ends up I was short and I was going on a trip that required I get this job done. Wanting to keep the run as short as possible but allowing me plenty of slack to do the routing through the 5th wheel. I didn't have a week to wait nor did I want to pay $90.00 shipping for next day (that is crazy!). So comes the issue of inline splicing which the customer service said could't be done. Which me please. Since I need to run wire any way I chose to put the antenna in the console just below The run to the truck was going to require15 feet.Read more ›
