Simply stunning, June 24, 2011
This review is from: Peanut Butter Blues and Melancholy Jam (MP3 Download)
This is one of the best albums I've heard so far in 2011. His combination of sort hip-hop, post dubstep, and r&b makes a beautifully textured album, and very intimate vocals (always helped by his terrific british accent). I guess you could place him along side Jamie XX's solo work or James Blake. It's a sound I'm really enjoying and I really can't wait to see this new genre evolve further. It's great to hear electronic artists being more expressive, warm and musical - especially in comparison to the Rusko/Skrillex/Deadmau5 sort of dubstep that's so popular nowadays that is just so cold and mechanical. There's no way this guy is gunna stay a hidden gem for long, this is gunna blow up.

very Timely (but my capital v doesn't work), August 14, 2011
This review is from: Peanut Butter Blues and Melancholy Jam (MP3 Download)
I related to the atmosphere of this album immediately. The music is very perfect with the lyrics, and the lyrics are what get to me. He has a way of putting himself out there without being dramatic, whiny, or repetitive. My interpretation of this album is that he's in his 40s and life hasn't been what he thought it should be. Now he's going to hash it out and do what he really wants to do, like make some music. He has gotten in his own way, given up, let go, drank, drew himself up, and now he's moving forward with maybe a newer understanding. I am in this place too right now and listen to this when I need to feel related to.
Musically, it's detailed, electric, and interesting. The other reviewer probably will give a better description musically, I just know I really like it. Again, this artist is honest, neither too dark or the opposite, and I look forward to hearing more. I think he's done a truly good thing and I'm glad he decided to do it!
