Ingredients are inaccurate, recipe has changed, refunds not allowed
on March 22, 2013
As someone who used to purchase Peanut Butter & Co.'s peanut butter regularly several years ago, I was disappointed to find out that they changed the recipe for the worse. The ingredients listed are incorrect, as peanuts and salt are not the only ingredients.
When I got the jars, I saw that they read "new and improved formula" and "now easier to spread." The "new and improved formula" means they added sugar and oil, so the ingredients in the item listing are incorrect, since peanuts and salt are not the only ingredients. The ingredient list on the jar is, and I quote, "Peanuts, evaporated cane juice, palm fruit oil, salt." I was hoping to avoid added sugar and oil when shopping for a natural peanut butter. Although they did not add high fructose corn syrup or hydrogenized oil, this is still unacceptable considering the item listing says it only contains peanuts and salt.
"Easier to spread" means it feels and tastes less like the natural peanut butter this product once was. It now has the consistency of unnatural, low quality peanut butters like Jiff and Peter Pan.
What's worse is that I could not return the peanut butter since it is a food item and is nonreturnable as per Amazon's guidelines. The ingredient list was misleading, and I was charged for a product that I did not want. I gave the jars to a local homeless shelter hoping some good would come from this.
I bought Laura Scudder's peanut butter recently, and I'm glad to see they still make a delicious, natural peanut butter without any additives. Just be wary if you order that peanut butter online, because they are glass jars and may break during shipping.
