For All Modern Moms,
By Samantha Gianulis "Sam" (Southern California) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Peanut Butter, Playdates & Prozac: Tales from a Modern Mom (Paperback)
Arlene has written a hilarious book about "being Mommy" these days, my favorite is her "lists". I understand everything she says, and enjoyed how she expresses aspects of modern motherhood in a light-hearted, entertaining voice. It was just right for my end of the day wind-down. Did I mention I loved the lists?

LOVED this book! Saw the author on TV & knew I had to read her book! Bought it to read and give as gifts to my best mom friends. You can read this book in one sitting and you're guarenteed to laugh out loud the whole time!! (My husband thought I was insane, I was laughing so loud!) Then you keep it around to go back to whenever you need a quick pick-me-up. Highly recommend this one for every mom who has a life filled with peanut butter, playdates, or prozac!

You know how you always think things in your head, but don't say them out loud...this mom writer does just that! This book is hysterical and just what busy, stressed out moms need after a hard day being mommy. I loved it!!!

This is a great, great book. I ordered two copies and have been anxiously awaiting their arrival. I was delighted when they finally did and immediately devoured one. Being an overscheduled single parent, I read it while I was at the health club on the bicycle (what? exercise standing up?) and was literally overcome with laughter. So many things ring true and the others, if they haven't happened yet, I am expecting to at any minute.
I loved the warmth and affection that shine through the words as well as the very appropriate humor. The subject matter will be familiar to anyone with children and many times the reader will realize that indeed misery loves company and that this book is great company. The author is articulate, witty, irreverant, insightful, and a very obviously devoted parent. She's seems like someone you'd want to be friends with. This should be required reading for everyone with children or those who are about to have them. I am doing my part -- my two copies are making the circle round the neighborhood. I hope I'll get at least one of then back eventually!

This book is my life! I kept nodding my head in recognition, and empathy, over the stories told in this book. And I admit to honestly laughing out loud over several of these anecdotes. I'm so happy to have found an author who speaks not only to me, but to my generation of women.

Waste of time and money,

This review is from: Peanut Butter, Playdates & Prozac: Tales from a Modern Mom (Paperback)
This book reads like someone's primitive journal entries that they published themselves in their spare time for some quick extra spending money. There are 3 very basic grammatical mistakes in just the first 20 pages! The font is oversized, in what seems like an attempt to make the content seem more substantial than it is. The books is half the length of a normal book for not much less the price. Really all that it is: a bunch of random lists, made-up lyrics to kids' songs with adult themed words, and anecdotes that the author's own family would be hard pressed to find funny. I wish that I had noticed it was so short (94 pages) before buying it, and that would have clued me in a little. The contents of this book would have better suited to being a magazine article; that is about the depth of what you get for your money. If you are looking for a book on par with many of the wonderful books out there in this genre (of which I have read many), SKIP this one - hoepfully you will not waste your time and money on it like I did.
