Editorial Reviews

From Library Journal

As the author suggests, the romance of baseball is rooted largely in its lore and legends. To further the notion, he offers a succession of anecdotes spanning a variety of topics, including superstitions, practical jokes, travel tales, injuries, off-field transgressions, and salary disputes. A majority are set prior to 1950 and have a definite New England flavor (Cataneo is a Boston sportswriter). They are stories a bat boy might have overheard in a dugout during a lengthy rain delay. Some are not only humorous but insightful as history, while others in their puerility only reinforce the impression of the national pastime as a little boy's game. In all, a marginal choice for subject collections.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great baseball book, June 13, 2000
This review is from: Peanuts & Crackerjack: A Treasury Of Baseball Legends And Lore (Paperback)
I have a great time reading the stories in this collection both for myself and my son. The stories are short enough to keep his attention and it can be read in snippets so it is perfect fo those times when you are just looking for something to fill some down time. It is also fun to take the ballpark for in between innings. It is pefect for the fan who likes to learn about the little stuff that goes on in baseball both behind the scenes and in the newspaper.
