A New Year's we can all relate to, October 23, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Peanuts: Happy New Year Charlie Brown (Slip Case Packaging) [VHS] (VHS Tape)
This is a Charlie Brown classic that covers all the basics: Homework during Christmas break and finding someone to kiss when the clock strikes midnight. Poor Charlie Brown has been given a doozy of a homework assignment...read War and Peace over Christmas vacation. Plus he has to go a New Year's Eve party and somehow manage to kiss that "little red-haired girl." Of course, War and Peace puts him to sleep (literally!) and Charlie Brown wakes up after midnight. Snoopy and the gang naturally have the time of their lives (and guess who Linus kisses at midnight?!) This is a video you simply have to own and should be watched with a Charlie Brown Christmas.

Prove a Point..., January 18, 2006
This review is from: Peanuts: Happy New Year Charlie Brown (Slip Case Packaging) [VHS] (VHS Tape)
Old Review 1/16/2006: I actually bought this VHS tape to prove a point about Marcy & Peppermint Patty, but in the process, fell in love with Charlie Brown all over again. Who in the world wants to read War & Peace on New Year's Eve? Aargh! New Review 12/31/2006: I'm so sad that this doesn't come in DVD. This is absolutely my favorite one and I'm a hardcore Peanuts fan (specifically Charlie Brown and Lucy). Charlie Brown is stuck reading War and Peace, and the little Red-Headed Girl is invited to the New Year's party. Pepperment Patty thinks the "sly dog" wants to kiss her at midnight but he falls asleep at the best moment. Poor Chuck! There are some great musical numbers in this one that I can bop along to. I watched this as a child and would LOVE to see this at midnight but I've checked three places and nobody is selling it on DVD. Oh well! I just realized after I tried to post my first review that I'd already posted one...and I didn't know I had the VHS. I can't find it. Aaaaaaaaaaaargh. I'm as sad as Chuck.

Good but not Great, December 30, 2004
This review is from: Peanuts: Happy New Year Charlie Brown (Slip Case Packaging) [VHS] (VHS Tape)
This had the misfortune to be made in the 80s. Charlie Brown specials weren't their best at this time. The music was post-Guaraldi and pre-David Benoit. For some reason, the voices and animation weren't good, either. However, it isn't the worst Peanuts special. (That award goes to "Someday You'll Find Her, Charlie Brown") If this were made in the 70s, it would be great. The New Year plotline involves Charlie Brown's homework dilemmas and New Year Dances. If you want a good Charlie Brown storyline, this is fine. If you want good music and voices, no. I think I only watch this because it's a New Year special.
