*Starred Review* Gr. 7-10. His brother having died years earlier, 15-year-old Jason inherits by default the Wizard's Stone, which has been passed down from father to eldest son for generations. Part coming-of-age story, part creation tale, and part struggle between various evils and Good, this is a complex tale of a desperate quest. Jason, accompanied by the village Teacher (a member of the Etha race) and a Manwarrior, travels the country in search of the Pearl of Anton, which must be united with the Wizard's Stone so that the boy can engage in a predestined battle against Pure Evil and Less Evil. Along the way, Jason must overcome his fears and insecurities and learn how to use his powers. The action is intense and the violence level high as the ghastly creatures of Pure Evil and Less Evil try to kill Jason before the final battle. Del Vecchio has created a richly detailed world, complete with a compelling history and wonderfully developed races, including elves and dwarfs as well as the Etha. The climactic battle is catastrophic and convincing, and the suspense leading up to it is almost overwhelming. Del Vecchio's first YA fantasy, this is sure to make a big splash among genre fans. My new novel is about Adventure! Power! Wizardry! Fear! and Hope! All set in an age of wizards and warriors.

For fantasy enthusiasts both young and old, my story is about a young boy who must save his world from destruction while learning to conquer his crippling doubts and fears.

Jason Del, a shoemaker’s son, learns that he is the heir to the powerful Wizard’s Stone. But with it comes the responsibility to defend humanity and the land of Trinity in the Final Contest, a battle between the gods. The time of the Final Contest is at hand, and it falls to Jason to fight a cunning beast known only as Pure Evil.

But Jason must first find the long lost Pearl of Anton which is said to be able to add its own secret power to that of the Wizard's Stone. The responsibility of both comes to Jason by default, however. The heir was supposed to be Jason’s older brother, Theda, who died mysteriously two years before. Strong, brave, and purely good, Theda was everything Jason is not, and Jason’s guilt over his older brother’s death haunts him.

Accompanied by a beautiful Teacher from the Race of Etha, and a mysterious woodsman named IAM, Jason sets off on a journey to reunite the Wizard’s Stone with the Pearl of Anton. If Jason cannot master his powers, or come to terms with the secret of his brother's death, the world is DOOMED!

More About the Author

Gene Del Vecchio is a longtime entertainment researcher, writer, and the president of his own consulting firm in Valencia, California. He has helped entertainment giants create, develop, and market blockbuster entertainment for over 30 years. He has researched and consulted on well over a hundred TV shows, films, and franchise-based product lines from toys to apparel.

He's the author of six books, the latest being Creating Blockbusters! which details key principles that lead to blockbuster success in films, TV shows and books. Gene is also the author of two fantasy novels for young adults; The Pearl of Anton which received a Starred Review in Booklist and The Sword of Anton which received the Young Adult Choice Award by the International Reading Association. His clients over the years have included The Walt Disney Company, Paramount Pictures, Starz, PBS Kids Sprout, Mattel, MGA Entertainment, Nestle, Kraft Foods, Procter & Gamble, and more.

The Pearl of Anton is a very exciting and adventursome book. If you thought Harry Potter was good, give The Pearl a read and I'm sure you will find Jason Del just as compelling to read. You find you become one of the Dels on their quest for the Pearl and you help to fight off the bantogs as you journey through time. The Pearl is a definite 5 Star rating!!

This book is a great fantasy read and a must for people looking for their next fix after Lord of the Rings. Good intro for people who are unfamiliar with the fantasy genre.
