5.0 out of 5 stars Great book for the price!

1.0 out of 5 stars Distortion of history
A book about Pearl Harbor, the Movie should be a book *about* Pearl Harbor, the Movie! Here, there are a few pages of cast bio in the front, and about 20 pages of information of how the movie was made at the back (well, a paragraph or two of information per page, and lots of photos). In between is the 'real' history of the attack on Pearl Harbor...but it is illustrated...

I just bought this book and it totally blew me away. Contrary to another review here, I find almost every page of this book to be extremely informative and jam-packed with information on the real attack and the making of the movie, with LOTS of movie photos and a lot of historical photos too. Also included are short bios of movie characters, quotes about the movie and the event from cast and crew, and storyboards and a timeline of the events of that day. I HIGHLY recommend this!

5.0 out of 5 stars Terrific Book, "Pearl Harbor: The Movie and the Moment"!!!, September 9, 2001
By
This review is from: Pearl Harbor: The Movie and the Moment (Newmarket Pictorial Moviebooks) (Hardcover)
If you liked the movie, which I did, I'm sure you would like "Pearl Harbor: The Movie and the Moment". Not only does it have plenty of color images, movie stills, sketches, storyboards, maps, blueprints, computer graphics, behind the scenes information, and more, it also tells about the actual history of what happened on December 7, 1941 at Pearl Harbor. I liked reading the actors, producers, and writers comments in the book. I especially liked reading about the Eagle Squadron. Teaches you Eagle Squadron slang in the book!

I think that even if you didn't like the movie that much, this book has plenty of information about the history of Pearl Harbor so I'm sure you would be satisfied with it. Enjoy!

5.0 out of 5 stars Nicely rendered movie and history tome!, May 12, 2001

(REAL NAME)
This review is from: Pearl Harbor: The Movie and the Moment (Newmarket Pictorial Moviebooks) (Hardcover)
"Pearl Harbor: The Movie and the Moment" is the pictoral and masteruflly worded telling of the making of 2001's most anticipated blockbuster since "Hannibal," while also giving us a taste of the time period and history behind the bombing of the Hawaiian naval base. From archive photographs and eye-witness accounts, to cast and crew interviews, movie stills and behind-the-scenes photographs, producer Jerry Bruckheimer, director Michael Bay and screenplay writer Randall Wallace take us on an exclusive journey into the two-year collaborative efforts that went into the making of the now-most expensive movie in history. The secrets of the special effects are revealed, while including photographs that will only wet your appetite for seeing them in their full glory on the big screen. Michael Bay's introduction is what makes this movie one of his best in my eyes: it shows his devotion to the accuracy of the film in the face of possible rejection by historians. "As I got deeper and deeper into my research, I learned that historians have different views and theories about what happened. [The Pentagon] admitted that there were no real Navy or Army logs kept during this time period. Would I be able to satisfy every survivor, historian and military buff? The answer is no." The movie will, no doubt, be a success, and even if you don't find it in your favor, this book is an intriguing look at its making as well as the history behind it and the energy that went into making the movie.

5.0 out of 5 stars What goes into a movie..., November 1, 2003
This book does not tell the story of Pearl Harbor;nor does it claim to.What we have here, is a book showing what went into making this movie about Pearl Harbor and it does it very well. The artwork, photos of actors at work, scenes being set up,storyboards, maps, drawings, special effects set-ups,equipment mock-ups and replicas, original photos, etc.are all combined to make this an excellent portrayal of all that goes into recreating an event of such monumental proportions.

1.0 out of 5 stars Distortion of history, July 20, 2005

A book about Pearl Harbor, the Movie should be a book *about* Pearl Harbor, the Movie! Here, there are a few pages of cast bio in the front, and about 20 pages of information of how the movie was made at the back (well, a paragraph or two of information per page, and lots of photos). In between is the 'real' history of the attack on Pearl Harbor...but it is illustrated by scenes from the movie - which really bore little relationship to the actual events and to use them to illustrate those events is horrible! At the very least, a photo of the real General Doolittle should have been put beside that of Alec Baldwin (who portrayed him) a photo of the real Genda beside that of Tagawa, who portrayed him), etc. This book succeeds neither as a history of Pearl Harbor, nor as a Making of the Movie.

By A Customer
This review is from: Pearl Harbor: The Movie and the Moment (Newmarket Pictorial Moviebooks) (Hardcover)
This is an OK book. The movie was just OK. The book is a little better. There are very good photos in this book if you like the movie. That's what I like about it.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good book, June 5, 2001
This review is from: Pearl Harbor: The Movie and the Moment (Newmarket Pictorial Moviebooks) (Hardcover)
This book was conceived as a companion to the new movie. Chocked full of pictures from the movie and from behind the scenes, the book discusses the actual events of 1941 and '42, the people involved, and the aftermath. Finally, the book then discusses the making of the movie, giving a lot of fascinating details.

Though this book was written as a companion to the movie, you don't need to use it as such. It is quite a good book on the events surrounding America's forced entry into World War II. I found the book interesting, and thought that the pictures added a lot to the text. I liked this book.

The Book is a joy to read and look at. The movie was very good, and for the critics, when do they ever say a movie is good. I have yet meet a co-worker or friend, who has had one bad thing to day about Pearl Harbor the movie. But the critics are my judge of movies if they say its bad then its a Must go see, for you know you will enjoy it.
