The heel loop and speed laces are just icing on the cake.
I've used this in 2 ironman races and had no complains nor had any discomfort.
Very comfy and they breathe.

Product Description

Pearl iZUMi PURE run is what happens when you re-think the running experience from the ground up. A starting point not rooted in '70s folklore or industry dogma, but in simply creating better running products. The Pearl iZUMi design process has no constraints based on that's-the-way-everyone-does-it thinking or complex techno mumbo-jumbo. Pearl iZUMi PURE run is simply a better way of designing products. All Pearl iZUMi products are created based on a philosophy of no complexity and no compromise. The result is out-of-the-box comfort you can see and feel. This is PURE run.

Driven by input from two-time Ironman World Champion Tim DeBoom, Pearl Izumi created the Men's EM Tri N 2 Running Shoe. Ideal for triathlon training and racing, this long-distance shoe strikes a careful balance of efficient foot positioning, explosive energy return, and comfort. The breezy mesh upper feels smooth against your bare foot thanks to seamless construction, and the supple midsole features a low 3. 5mm drop for easy transitions between heel, mid, and forefoot strikes. Seconds matter when you're racing and training, so Pearl Izumi's designers added a quick-lacing system at the forefoot and a pull tab at the heel so you can get this shoe on and off fast. Suddenly, long courses melt away underneath your toes and stage transitions simply fly by on your way to the podium.

Mid foot offset to toe off was very smooth and efficient.

If they would have simply beefed up the Iso Transition a bit for the longer distance they would have had a winning formula.

I had issues with my previous shoes while running without socks even though they were marketed as a sock less shoes.

Very good, but I still like the IsoTransition better. Only plus on this one is the lack of drain holes in the sole, therefore no issues with running on trails where the Iso Transitions might often pick up small pebbles/gravel and cause problems. Note on the fit: I am normally a size 9.5 but use 10.5 for Pearl Izumis. Half of the extra size is purely to account for long-distance running (half marathon and up) where I've had occasional issues with my toes late in the run. Otherwise, a half-size over might be OK.

First off I love these shoes. They fit true to size but they are a little snug due to the sock less design. I just received mine today in the mail and even though I went for a long bike ride before they arrived, I had to try them out. So, I went for a quick 4 mile run (without socks) and had no problems what so ever. I was super excited because I haven't ran without socks in over a year. I had issues with my previous shoes while running without socks even though they were marketed as a sock less shoes. So I am super excited to have a quick transitioning shoe that doesn't require lacing up, or socks for quick transitions! I love the colors and design look of the new Pearl shoes as well. I used to be a little hesitant of Pearl Izumi because I knew they were mainly a bicycle brand but these new EM shoes convinced me to give them a try and I am sold! For as long as they make this line of shoe they will now be my go to brand for shoes!

during a triathlon the water did not drain from the shoe, so I had to carry all that sloshy weight... They also fit a bit wide and the seam rubs a bit if you're running sockless..

The Pearl Izumi EM Tri N 2 almost has it right. The Iso Transition was perhaps the best triathlon running shoe ever built and like so many shoe companies, Pearl Izumi just couldn't be satisfied with near perfection so they discontinued the shoe and came out the EM versions in the Tri N1 and N2. These shoes don't hold a candle to the Iso Transition. If they would have simply beefed up the Iso Transition a bit for the longer distance they would have had a winning formula. That said I like the shoe though it could be a bit more rounded and wider at the end of the toe box. Why is it shoe companies design shoes that sort of come to a point at the end rather than more rounded. I have never seen a foot that comes to a point n the middle. Of course, the Iso Transition was more rounded.
The biggest problem with this shoe is the heel. The entry is large and so the shoe does not grab the heel well. I didn't make it a block in this shoe before raising a blister and having to turn around to get some socks. So if you are going to wear this shoe you better goop up the heel really well with lubricant and take a few practice runs. If you think this shoe will be race ready for sockless comfort you will make a huge mistake. You may be able to improve heel snugness by sizing down a half size but unless you are someone that likes your big toe touching the end of the shoe that may reduce toe box comfort a bit. The toe box is comfortable but again could be shaped a little more like the human foot and a little less like the typical running shoe. I do like the breathability of the shoe but really miss the drain holes of the Iso Transition. I like the EM platform and have been running in the EM Road M2 for a couple months. If they can figure out how to design the heel cup to be just a bit more snug I think it would be a winner.

Switched from the iso's to these. Ran one time and was blistered up. Went through 3 pair of iso's and never had that problem. So I guess I will break them in wearing socks. Other then that they seem decent. Hope to get them broke in and get some miles before deciding if I really like them or not.

These are very comfortable slip on shoes.
I originally ordered size 10 as that's what I wear in nike but these were too big,
    Especially when not wearing socks.

They are long and really thin. I have pretty thin feet but when I get to about the 3 mile mark in my running, my toes start to go numb. I'm going to let my wife use them and see if they work better for her.
