Pearl iZUMi Zephrr Cycling Jacket

I don't have much experience in cycling or even cycling clothes, but for my first experience here are my thoughts.

Pros:
-Comfortable
-Lightweight
-Good quality
-Nice color
-Keeps you well insulated (although I use thermals/under-armor on exceptionally cold days)
-Vents for armpits are actually very useful
-Cuts through wind perfectly
-Nice style, I have worn it out as a regular jacket a couple of times (or maybe everyone thought I looked stupid but didn't want to tell me)

Cons:
-Price <-- I have a feeling this product could easily be 10 bucks cheaper but then again, quality cycling clothing has never been cheap
-Sometimes the zipper will get undone but placing the bottom elastic band over your waist will help (I don't have the problem anymore)

Other thoughts:
Order a size larger than what they suggest. I am a male, my waist is 31-32 but I went with a large instead of a medium which works out perfectly because I like to layer up and I don't feel like it's too tight, but it's definitely not loose.

Like I said, I don't have much experience with cycling, I wear this jacket mainly for commuting to work (5 miles each way). So, if you are a daily bicycle commuter, and you need a jacket for the fall weather, this is perfect. I will also try this jacket out in the winter, but I have a feeling a regular winter coat will be my ultimate choice.

EDIT: This jacket isn't good for winter. I still layered up but any precipitation for more than 5 minutes and it's a cold ride for you. STick to winter clothes outerwear for that season. Like I mentioned earlier, this jacket has been perfect for Fall and Spring.

This is one exceptional piece of technical clothing. The jacket is light as a feather. You almost forget you're wearing it. The material has the smoothness and consistency of a party balloon only softer, thicker, and without elasticity. A closer look reveals the material has thousands of tiny pores that allow moisture to pass through. The zipper is sturdy and stays exactly where you put it. Leave it halfway zipped and the jacket scoops air around your body that lifts the material an inch away from your skin. The back is longer so your butt stays covered when you lean forward into a riding position. The piping on the chest, sleeves, and back is reflective. It also looks cool as hell. There is no downside to this jacket. It's pricey but worth it. Get one. You won't regret it.

Just like all my other Pearl Izumi stuff, this jacket is very well made. I have worn it as the final layer for riding in very chilly rides (around 30 deg) and it blocks the wind really well. It won't help a whole lot with the actual cold (it's REALLY thin) but it works great for blocking wind. I have also not ridden in the rain yet, so I am not sure how it would fair with rain protection. It also folds up into it's own pocket so you can easily remove it mid-ride and put in a jersey pocket. Worth the investment IMO.

I have the pearl izumi jacket for myself and because my husband loved it, I found one for him too. He's 6'2" and I ordered him the XL and it fits great! We don't have any problem spotting him on the road, which is great for safety and the jacket does a great job cutting the wind chill.

I wore a Zephrr for years and put well over 15,000 miles on it, taking it on and off thousands of times. After over 8 years of use the only wear was the cuffs which have become somewhat loose...Decided to buy a new one last season...To cut to the chase, unfortunately the zipper on the new version is of less quality than on the older. I've had it come off track several times. So far I've been able to get it back, and it still works o.k., but, dah! ...Why does P.I. have to cheapen a good product with a marginal zipper? I just bot a P.I. Elite Thermal Barrier Jacket, and love it, the zipper is at least twice the size and quality of the one on the Zephrr...WHY?

I needed something comfortable, easy to care for, and visible on the road. This jacket has been perfect on all counts.

great, very light jacket. I normally wear medium and ordered a medium in this jacket but you need to order next size up. The medium is too small for me. I will give the first one I bought to a cycling buddy and am ordering myself a large.

This was a good purchase and I both run and mountain bike. The jacket is a bright color and is adequate when running/bicycling under cool conditions such as exist here in Northern California.
