I highly recommend this book. The story of Isabel, who is an adventurous young woman, is filled with both suspense and romance. Author Lisa Mills did an excellent job developing this story. It captivated my attention and honestly I had a difficult time putting the book down. Pearls is an excellent book to read and FYI I loved the ending!

And I do mean the beginning. I had the privilege of reading this story when Lisa and I were critique partners years ago and loved, loved, loved it then. I'm so excited to see it now polished and published. It's a story of love and intrigue set in a country I knew little about at the time. Her setting descriptions are breathtaking. I was sure she'd taken a quick trip down there to get it exactly right only to find out she'd done meticulous research and used such beautiful language to bring the beauty of this country right into my computer screen. This story won't disappoint!

Lisa Mills does it again! She is my favorite new author! Lisa has such a wonderful way with words, weaving the story so I couldn't set the book down. Pearls takes you off the beaten path and into remote wilderness where the excitement and unexpected turns keep you devouring the book page after page. I would recommend Pearls to anyone.

I read Holding On by the same author (which I enjoyed) and picked this up for free on kindle shortly afterwards. I was hoping for a novel about the history and culture of Venezuela where it is set. It's got some of that early Hispanic history but not v much. This novel has a lot more religion in it than the previous one mentioned and for me it was a bit full on. The story was ok, but found the main characters a bit uninspiring. The novel's well put together, but as I said a bit overtly religious for me.

The plot line was unique, and many of the spiritual and moral lessons were spot-on, but the writing was often condescending and cliched. The author continually and overwhelmingly spelled out what I should think and feel, as opposed to letting the scene and characters speak for themselves.

Pearls by Lisa Mills is everything a good book should be. Romance, intrigue, mystery, buried treasure - this is one book I'd like to see made into a movie. It has all the right trappings for it. Isabel Palmer has moved to Venezuela to discover herself. Her mother, a native Venezuelan moved to the US for love. Now Isabel wants to discover her roots and is living as an exchange student. Her maternal Grandmother gives her a precious gift - a five hundred year old diary that has been in the family for centuries. Isabel becomes intrigued with the mystery surrounding her ancestor, Rodrigo Valesquez and begins the task of translating the ancient document into modern language. She manages to acquire the help of local professor of archeology, Manuel Santiago. What they discover set them on a quest for buried treasure and a discovery about love and faith. To complicate matters, Isabel's boyfriend Raul, a wealthy business man, sponsors the expedition. But danger lurks and soon Isabel isn't sure which man she can trust. This book was excellent on so many levels. Not only was it well written, but I loved the way the actual story from the journal was woven into the modern day story. I highly recommend this book and I'll be the first to recommend it as the next romantic suspense blockbuster.

Don't bother buying this book. It was a waste of my time. The story line is drawn out. I didn't care about any of the characters. About a third of the way through I paged my way to the end just so I could see if something worth while happened. Spoiler Alert! It didn't.

This is the first one star review I have given, that is how much I disliked this book.

I loved Pearls! It has just the right mix of everything to keep you wanting to read more. I hated to put it down but hated it when I got to the end. Great writing of an endearing story.
