This review is from: Pearls of the Parrot of India: The Walters Art Museum, Khamsa of Amir Khusraw of Delhi (Paperback)
This is a catalog from the Metropolitan Museum of Art, so it nearly goes without saying that it is well-executed and the color plates are gorgeous. What is truly amazing to me, though, is that this story exists, illustrated by so many superlative painters from the Eastern tradition, and I had never heard of it -- I only stumbled across an illustration by chance, and then spent days upon days looking for references in western literature. I am still hoping to find a definitive translation of the whole, whether illustrated or not, but in the meanwhile, I am absolutely thrilled to find this ravishingly illustrated, authoritative work on the Khamsa, which does a very credible job of describing the storyline, as well as the author's incredible life. This work is well worth anyone's exploration, and the artwork is a visual feast.
