Peavey VYPYR VIP1 20W GUITAR AMP

From the Manufacturer

Vypyr VIP 1

VYPYR® V.I.P. - Variable Instrument Input

Once again Peavey Electronics revolutionizes the modeling amp industry. Introducing the world's first Variable Instrument Performance amplifier, the VYPYR® V.I.P. The world's first amp that contains Electric guitar, Acoustic guitar and Bass guitar amplifier models. Now for the first time ever using our Variable Instrument Input a single amp can provide amplification for a variety of instrument types.

Not only does the amplifier morph from an electric amp, to an acoustic amp, to a bass amp, it also allows the electric guitar player access to instrument models as well -- another Peavey first! The Vypyr VIP's astonishingly realistic instrument simulations allow users to manipulate the sound of their electric guitar to mimic an acoustic guitar, a bass, a 12-string guitar, and more!

Technology and Tone

Using the combination of a powerful 32-bit, floating-point SHARC® processor and patented TransTube® analog circuitry, the Vypyr VIP series contains innovative technology to create the most diverse and best sounding modeling amplifiers available. The Vypyr VIPs feature new acoustically ported semi-closed back enclosures, which create an extremely full sound. Guitarists also have access to over 70 amp, instrument, stompbox models and rack style effects, allowing for endless creative options and a completely new range of tonal possibilities.

Vypyr VIP 1
WYSIWYG and VYPYR® Edit

In order to easily view all parameters at a glance, the Vypyr VIP series includes Peavey's WYSIWYG (What You See Is What You Get) interface. The WYSIWYG interface allows the user to be able to identify the proper position of the encoders from preset to preset. In addition, one control can be used for multiple functions.

VYPYR's new USB bi-directional data and audio port provides an easy way to record, and or connect to our VYPYR EDIT software and store presets, get lessons, and practice to backing tracks while connected to your computer.

TransTube®

The Vypyr VIP series leverages the patented Peavey TransTube® technology to deliver the most astonishing amp tone in the modeling amp world. The TransTube technology emulates the sound and feel of tube amplifiers through a special design that took three U.S. Patents to cover.

The TransTube preamp tailors the gain level for the desired amount of drive and the power amp responds with natural compression that increases with the amp's volume. The result is a line of amplifiers with widely ranging dynamics and natural "grit", just like a real tube amp.

Additional Sanpera™ Support

The Sanpera I™ includes an expression pedal for executing volume, wah and pitch shifter functions, plus four momentary feature selector buttons. Both the Sanpera I and II are housed in roadworthy and rugged cast-metal casings and feature high-quality metal switches.

The Sanpera™ II allows the user to remotely control virtually any feature of the VYPYR Series modeling amplifiers, and increases the preset storage from 12 in-amp presets to an astounding 400 programmable presets. This controller features dual, assignable expression pedals with tap switches, dedicated tap tempo and looper control, as well as footswitches for accessing presets, preamp "stompbox" effects, post-amp "rack" effects, delay and reverb.

i considered buying this or the line 6 spyder 3 15 watt, and i did my research. not only does this amp have a better sound to it than any line 6 (in the 15-20 watt practice amp range) i have played, it also has roughly 20 stompbox settings on it, 10 different amp types to choose from, and an unheard of option of using it as an electric/acoustic guitar as well as bass amp. honestly, as i write this review, there is no better bargain for an amp at this range.

Bought this thinking that I could consolidate amplifiers. Although this is far better than the Mustang 1 by Fender it should not be promoted as being a multi-instrument amp, at least when it comes to bass. A bass, particularly with preamp, will send this poor thing screaming with vibration even at modest tones. Don't buy if you think that you can use for your bass. Just can't handle it. Low E a killer. Low B a death sentence.

Now the good. Great selection of features and tones. Controls reasonably straight forward. Speaker more than enough for a guitar. Compact and solidly constructed.

Not so sure about Transtube technology. Not bad but it still sounds like solid state to me. My Valve Jr makes this sound like a toy.

In the end it's a decent amp for the money.

I have to admit I don't write many reviews. But I am so pleased with this amp. I just got it today. I needed something to practice through without having to lug my one ton rack amp into the living room but I still wanted a full satisfying sound. This amp delivers. It has many great sounds. No muddiness on the drive sounds. All the strings come through clearly. It is a bit brighter than my big rig, im sure due to the small open back speaker, but not enough to be annoying. Most amps I've had like this usually have nice saturated gains and nice cleans but the low driven sounds tend to be thin and buzzy- rest assured, the in-between sounds are really great on this amp, I particularly like the 6534 orange channel. Great for rock rhythm. The 6505 snd triple x models are really outstanding as well- thick and rich sounding. As There are many amo models to choose from and they are all useful. Also, my guitar is a musicman JP 6 equipped with a peizo bridge. The acoustic modeler works fairly well with it. Not as good as my digitech 1101, but good enough for practice.
A few minor compaints- one thing I immediately didn't like was lack of a booklet manual. Don't care for the cd Rom. The manual is printable, but about half of the manual is in a foreign language and would be a huge waste of ink and paper. And additionally, the manual is not laid out well. Prepare to spend some serious time trying to figure out the controls. The silk screened labeling around the knobs are small and hard to figure out what some of the abbreviations mean. Again, read, setup your presets and save them. Get a notebook to write out what all the abbreviations mean and what their functions are. Midi capability is not explained well and I have yet to find out if I can switch channels with my Roland fc300.

I chose this amp based on several great reviews.Having heard how amazing it sounds using my beginner electric guitar,I can't wait to try it using a better guitar. Also used it with my Alvarez electric acoustic, very easy to switch to different styles.I have it set on 1 or 2 for volume and its very loud. Will go up to 10 on Master Vol. I've been unable to get the disc for manual to play on my computer. But amp settings are easy to figure out.Quality is good and everything seems to work fine.Worth the xtra money over cheaper amps.

Despite Peavey being a metal oriented company, the cleans and crunch tones that come out of this amp are great. Even the metal tones are great.

Pros:
-Lots of fun little features. Great for beginners who want to be introduced to some effects. Without having to blow a lot of money.
-Metal tones are amazing. Very hot and clear sounding. Not muddy at all.
-20 watts help make this a more "clear" sounding practice amp.
-Headphone jack can be used with 5 dollar MP3 headphones. Which is great for people who don't want to blow 20 or 30 dollars on guitar amplifier headphones. Even when using headphones, still great tone.

Cons:
-Power switch is on the back of the amp. Not a real issue though.
-Built-in noise gate? Not a terrible problem, but I wish it could be customizable. Does work well for the most part. Helpful for high gain tones

For about 120 dollars, it's worth getting. Especially if you want something that sounds good for practice at home.

Still learning all the neat sounds I can get. Flute ,organ, clean to British Punk to heavy metal, every thing in between. There is no doubt you'll find your on unique sound for style or ZZTOP To CCR. You can find it. It is a better amp than I am a player at intermediate level. But makes me find the pro nich and love it. It is the amp to get. Viper 2,3 for the more advanced.
Get it . You can't beat the cost for the amp you get.

This amp has more settings than I know how to use, but it is an extremely versatile amp with plenty of volume. It's well made and does what it is supposed to do. I like it.
