A sophiscated lady of song,

1. Love Makes Things Happen 9.5/10
2. Always 10/10 3. It's Alright 10/10 4. Giving You the Benefit 10/10 5. Girlfriend 10/10 6. Backyard feat. Salt 'N' Pepa 10/10 7. Mercedes Boy 10/10 8. Give Me Your Love 10/10 9. Take Your Time 10/10 10. I Can't Help It 9/10 11. Are You Ready? 10/10 12. Do Me Right 9.5/10 13. Why Do I Believe 8.5/10 14. Angel 9.5/10 Pebbles proved her herself capable and deserving of a lengthy career in the Urban and Dance-Pop world. I feel like she gave up a bit too soon. Pebbles has a rare voice that very distingishable and enjoyable to hear. I can't wait for her to come back to recording! If Cher can come back about 10 times, Pebbles has the right to come back at least once! The grace, class, honestly, sophiscation, timeless, intelligence and lady-like attitude Pebbles exhibited is sorely missed by many! Nearly no Pop singer (in the U.S. that is) can come close to the charisma and natural charm she radiates. Pebbles never needed to look like a tramp and/or stray too far from the initial purpose music videos to get her point across. Thankfully, there are new, hard-working, no-nonsense Pop singers rising up such as Kimberly Locke, Anastacia, Dannii Minogue, Reina, Tina Ann, Fantasia, Samantha Mumba, Louise, Robyn and many more. So, there is a lot hope for her future. Not to mention, Pebbles helped pave the way for TLC (a group Pebbles created), Toni Braxton, Monica, Brandy, Faith Evans, Beyonce and other similar artists/singers. I give Pebbles the praise and the credit that is due to her. My favourite songs on this CD are the four #1 hits, the dynamic Dance-Pop songs "Girlfriend", "Giving You the Benefit", "Mercedes Boy" & the smooth Urban/Soul ballad "Love Makes Things Happen" feat. Babyface. My other favourites include her Top 40 R&B chart hit "Are You Ready?", the "That's the Way Love Goes" from Janet like "It's Alright", the would have been Adult Contemporary crossover smash hit, the low-key, slightly haunting ballad, "Angel" written by Pebbles herself among others! If you are looking for honest, straight-up, high quality Pop music, I highly recommend all of Pebbles' releases. Much thanks to her main producers Babyface, Andre Cymone and Pebbles ex-husband, L.A. Reid for bringing this fabulous lady of song to us! I hope to the heavens she records again! I also recommend music from Paula Abdul, Jody Watley, Cynthia, Karyn White, Lil' Suzy, and Laura Branigan.

old fan pleased,

I am most likely biased since I was always a fan of Mercedes Boy as a 12yr old. I bought that single and thought she was supercool cuz she had unique style. Then Always came out and I became a Pebbles fan for life, the album is great only two songs leave a little to be desired "Say a prayer, give it to me,". It truly showcased her as an artist/producer/writer and vocal ability. This GH takes from it except some great songs like my personal fav Stay with Me, which features a guitar solo by Babyface and her future jazzy nature on her 3rd album Straight from the heart. I suspect a 2nd collection will come out with the other songs because so many are missing like "Slip Away, and the Remixes of her super singles??? But the GH gives you all of her versatility, 80s funk, 90s dance, ballads and jazz, anyone who appreciates music without over the top R & B voices will love this album, just let it play.

Great collection of hits!,

Wow, this is a great collection of Pebbles' hits. I stumbled across her Greatest Hits in the record store and knew I had to buy it since I loved her album Straight From My Heart. I enjoy this CD very much and it's the kind of CD you can listen over and over again and never get tired of. It includes all her most popular hits. However, I think there were a few good songs left out here such as: "You," "My Baby Love," "Still On My Mind," and "One More Try." Nonetheless, it's still a great album. Best tracks are: "Always," "Give Me Your Love," "It's Alright," "Angel," and "Why Do I Believe." All of the songs on here are very old ones but still sound great as they did when they were new. This would make a wonderful addition to anyone's music/CD collection. A very pleasing little disc of classic memorable hits from Pebbles, the artist who inspired and helped many other artists get started like TLC and Toni Braxton.

Great Music By a Great Vocalist!,
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Pebbles - Greatest Hits (Audio CD)
Do people still make music like this? Surprisingly, people do. Lisa Stansfield's new album "Face Up" is a good example of this. I became a Pebbles fan in 2001 after hearing "Girlfriend" a lot. Now I own this cd and it is beautiful. Every song especially the ballads "Love Makes Things Happen", "Always", "It's Alright", "Give Me Your Love", "Why D I Believe?" and "Angel" are moving songs that millions of people exprience every day. The up-tempo songs especially her 1995 single "Are You Ready?" is great! Overall, a satisfacory compilatoion cd. Lovers of Pop/R&B, Dance and Soul should give Pebbles a try.

I ordered this CD mainly for "Mercedes Boy." I remember Pebbles having 2 or 3 hits. Who knew that all the tracks on this CD were keepers? I really have enjoyed the whole thing. A friend has picked up a copy as well. So, Thank you Pebbles, and I highly recommend this CD if you want to relive the late 80's and early 90's.

I remember when Pebbles had first came out she was a good singer and she has a nice voice and she had some of the best producers to help her out;But unfortunately she had got a bad deal and had been dealt a bad deck of cards in the music business !!!! Pebbles don't let that get you down come back and do some more good music just look another place for help.... Pebbles is the Cousin of one of my most favorite singers Cherelle another diva who was very underrated!!!! This is a good album and I would recommend this album to anyone who likes Pebbles there are some good tracks on this album and it brings back some meories . Some of my favorite songs are: Giving you the benefits, Girfriend, Love Makes Things Happen, Always, Merecedes Boy, and many other great songs!!!!!

A Timeless Talent With Beauty and Voice/ Big PEBBLES Fan!,
By Somebody's Princess (Providence, RI) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Pebbles - Greatest Hits (Audio CD)
I have not purchased this particular CD, but I do have every single CD of Pebbles from her first to her last. And each song listed on her greatest hits are the songs I cherished and continue listen to over and over again. I have seen the TLC Behind the music story on VH1 some time ago and to my understanding, there were some major disputes between the group and Pebbles. The girls(T-Boz, Chili, and Left Eye(Rest in love and peace, sister),decided to fire Pebbles as their manager because they felt she was being too "controlling" over the business and financial operations of their band. Granted,it was a difficult decision for TLC to make and carry through on, but it was what they felt would be in the best interest of their career. Pebbles also had her issues with former husband LA Reid, which was one of the main factors that drove them to a divorce. According to VH1's Behind the Music, Pebbles had such a feeling of betrayal and hurt from all the actions of all these people involved in her professional and personal life that she left the business and vowed to never return again. I don't know Pebbles other than the music she made. What type of personality she has or whatever other people may say about her, the woman is very talented. Those who criticize her should take into consideration that when a person starts out in the music business or any business for that matter, it can reap many negative life experiences that we learn and grow from, especially if you are a woman. Sometimes those experiences, can cause us to project our professional attitudes as a veteran soldier, a "tough cookie",or to be more specific, a "B". Often, that seems to be the only way a business woman who owns and runs a business has to be in order to survive and not be run over by people who pretend to be out for her best interest. How far is too far? That's something only Pebbles and God can determine and judge for herself. One of the reasons why I enjoy Pebbles music is because she has such a UNIQUE voice. An "innocently cute" but well seasoned voice is how I can best describe it. A voice that is not so commonly heard out there in the R&B world today. Like TLC, Pebbles encouraged women to have strength and wisdom in their character which you will find in her songs like,"Girlfriend," "Giving You The Benefit" and "Backyard". I also recommend her last CD "Straight From The Heart," lots of positive, socially conscious words on this CD. Some of my most favorite tracks on the CD are "Soul Replacement" "Long way to Travel", and "Happy". Nice songs to listen to, but they also make you THINK as well. I just want to put my message/review out there to wish Pebbles all the best in her transition and life endeavors, but hope that someday she would reconsider coming back into the business and make another CD. Things happen for a reason and for a purpose no matter how hurtful or how discouraging things and people can be. But eventually we all heal and we go on in life regardless. Love and God can make things happen! Pebbles, I love and respect you as an artist. I will always be a fan of yours even if you continue to stick with your choice of not coming back to the music scene again.

Pebbles - truly the greatest hits,
By Geminigirl (Philadelphia, PA United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Pebbles - Greatest Hits (Audio CD)
Pebbles debuted at a time when the music industry was truly diverse and frankly FUN! There was music for everyone's tastes-we had powerhouse r&b divas like Anita Baker, Regina Bell, Lisa Fischer & Chaka Khan and funky divas who, while not possessing the strongest voices had some of the most enjoyable dance music I've ever heard - this category includes Pebbles, Janet Jackson, Paula Abdul & Jody Watley. This is truly a great compilation of the hits from the past by Pebbles that I LOVED! My fav tracks are: Love Makes Things Happen - a timeless duet with Babyface 10/10 Always - another outstanding duet with her cousin, Cherrelle backing her up 10/10 Giving You The Benefit - funk driven beats, terrific dance track Girlfriend - terrific funky two snaps up advice song for the ladies 10/10 Backyard - great collabo with Salt n' Pepa before collabos with rappers became de riguer 10/10 Mercedes Boy - sly funky dance track (misunderstood song much like Destiny's Child's Bills, Bills, Bills) 10/10 Give Me Your Love - dreamy ballad 10/10 Take Your Time - my all time fav Pebbles song, backed by the great Charlie Wilson of The Gap Band 10/10 I Can't Help It - wonderful remake of a great Michael Jackson song 10/10 Do Me Right - one of the terrific "throw-away" songs from her first disc 9/10 Why Do I Believe - another great ballad 9.5/10 Pebbles' fans will not be disappointed in this compilation!

Before Toni Braxton, Babyface and L.A. Reid invested a lot in the vocal talents and looks of this lady.Pebbles was no disappointment. She has reached the top spot several times, entered the Top 40 several others and kept on delivering delicious music throughout the years - even co-written Babyface's hit WHIP APPEAL!. GIRLFRIEND is the one track that showcased her talent to the world. MERCEDES BOY the perfect follower and a summer smash in 1988. GIVING YOU THE BENEFIT is as catchy as you can think a black track to be. LOVE MAKE THINGS HAPPEN was a hit both in the R'n'B and Pop arena in 1991 and a great duet with Babyface himself - funny, some 10 years later i had a liking to it because of Sakis...i really rediscovered the whole meaning of the song. BACKYARD features Salt'n'Pepa and is another unstoppable tune... Some unknown tracks i really like now are ALWAYS and WHY DO I BELIEVE? (another Babyface produced thing). Pebbles has stopped releasing hit songs, i hope someday she changes her mind...she has still so much to offer! Meanwhile we have this... |
