This cookbook is awesome, it motivated me to try something new. I liked the variety of different recipes and I found it very easy to follow. I can't wait to share some of these dishes with relatives over the holidays.

The book arrived in a timely manner and it was packaged in such a way that it was in perfect shape when it arrived.
I flipped through the book and looked at random recipes. It made me rush into the kitchen and start cooking right away.
I will be purchasing more copies for Christmas presents.
Being from GA, I loved reading the author's recollections and her stories about her family.
Great book to add to my collection.

I checked this out from my local library this weekend, and I was pleasantly surprised. I love pecans, so I'm always interested in trying them in new ways. I would have to agree with another reviewer that there really isn't anything new in this cookbook, but all the recipes sound great, and if you enjoy reading cookbooks as a pastime, then this book fits the bill. I enjoyed reading about the history of the pecan, and I enjoyed all the recipes. I'm intrigued to try adding a little cornmeal to my much loved, traditional pecan pie recipe (back of Karo syrup bottle)..... I have a friend from New York who is in his thirties and has never tried a pecan. No, there is nothing ground-breaking about adding pecans to waldorf salad or chicken salad, etc., but for many people who have never been exposed to this wonderful little drupe, this would be a perfect place to start! I loved it, and now I'm in search of the other Savor the South Cookbooks.

To be honest, this is a cookbook I'd hoped to write one day. But if anyone had to beat me to it, I'm glad it was Kathleen Purvis, Food Editor of THE CHARLOTTE OBSERVER. In this little book of 50+ recipes, Kathi wastes no time getting down to business. She tells us how to pronounce "pecan," chronicles the history of America's best native nut, even tells us the best way to crack it. Then she's on to the recipes dishing up some golden oldies with a new twist as well as dozens of recipes entirely new to me: Smoky Garlic-Mustard Pecans . . . Sweet Heat Sriracha Pecans . . . Bourbon-Orange Pecans -- party-perfect nibbles as well as ideal candidates for my Christmas gift baskets. I'm eyeing her "mains" for Christmas dinner, too, and have about decided on Pecan-Stuffed Chicken Breasts. On the other hand, Pecan-Stuffed Game Hens sound mighty tempting, ditto Honey-Pecan Chicken. Sides? Cornbread Dressing with Pecans and Apples sounds fabulous. As for sweets, there's an embarassment of riches and being a fool for dulce de leche, my eye went straight to Kathi's Leche Queimada candy. What makes PECANS so enjoyable is that Kathi Purvis writes with verve, grace, humor, and not least, accuracy. Qualties all too rare among today's food writers as are recipes that have been carefully tested. The University of North Carolina Press had the great good sense to choose Kathi Purvis to introduce its popular new SAVOR THE SOUTH series. And here's a secret: She's already hard at work on book two for that series: BOURBON. Can't wait to get my hands on that one. Meanwhile, I'll happily cook my way straight through PECANS.

The recipes are mouth-watering and easy to follow. I enjoyed the cookbook so much that I bought six more for family and friends who like to cook as much as I do!
