Book Description

April 2, 2008
The four chapbooks collected in A Peculiar Feeling of Restlessness, three of them finalists and one of them the winner of the Rose Metal Press first annual short short chapbook contest, all revel in the succinctness of their form, the underlying tension anchored beneath each story of 1,000 words or less. These stories are peculiar; they resonate with restlessness. They are deft, they are gritty, and they are lyrical. Laughter, Applause. Laughter, Music, Applause by Kathy Fish, Wanting by Amy L. Clark, Sixteen Miles Outside of Phoenix by Elizabeth Ellen, and The Sky Is a Well by Claudia Smith combine four multi-layered portrayals of beautiful uneasiness into a collection rich with wit, grace, and originality.

Editorial Reviews

Review

The four brilliant chapbooks that make up A Peculiar Feeling of Restlessness are disarmingly, unabashedly intimate collections by women who know how to tell a story and aren't afraid to drag the unspoken out into the light of day. --Pia Z. Ehrhardt, in her introduction

5.0 out of 5 stars Rose Metal Press, February 11, 2011

This review is from: A Peculiar Feeling of Restlessness: Four Chapbooks of Short Short Fiction by Four Women (Paperback)
This publisher, Rose Metal Press mailed this book to me free via Lit Drift's Free Book Friday. What an exceptional gift. I seldom read short-shorts and as I slowly read each story by the four authors my brain was all warm and fuzzy and my body came to life with sparkling fire-work events.

Claudia Smith's "World of Men," Kathy Fish's "Foreign Film," Amy L. Clark's "Wanting," Elizabeth Ellen's "Blood," are all excellent shorts. I'd stretch my imagination to say that all the shorts are excellent eclipses of life. Get this book, read it and keep it for many more re-reads.

I will take my copy to dinner and show it to Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie. I know George Clooney will love reading this book so I'll take it with me when I shoot baskets with him next week.

My name is Ben Campbell and I'm the author of Dubrovnik, Vitruvian Man, Kissing Freud and Reggie Rocketship and His Boom Boom Pow Galaxy of Secrets. You can purchase them as eBooks here: [...]

What a bargain, four amazing authors in one. Warning though - don't read this book too quickly, take your time, or soon it will be over and you'll be saying, what? over already?
