I have read all the reviews on this book and I am not sure from what position people are making their comments. I wish to comment specifically on the content itself and as objectively as I can. In other words I am not going to tell you how I would have written the book, but will comment on the merits of the book as presented.

First my bias'. I am a progressive metal drummer who plays in a cover band performing Dream Theater and Rush covers. I use double bass technique all the time and continue to develop those techniques. In this capacity this book is 5 stars.

Over the years I have been frustrated that there has not been a book that would lead me step by step (pardon the pun) through foot control. Most books will tell you what to play (a thousand exercises) but they do not tell you how to play it (what techniques are to be used) This book d shows all the fundamentals for good foot technique for both heel up and down (the how) and then gives a plethora of exercises to support those techniques (the what).

The videos that are provided on the disk (which I saw as a bonus) helped me to grasp the movements of this book in a visual way. Yes the videos are simple but isn't that the point! This is a great addition especially for the visual learner.

As stated at the beginning of this article, I am not sure what people are looking for because I found as an advanced player and an instructor the book was extremely helpful to my students and me. The section on the heel turning movement was quite new to my playing and allowed me to analyze this movement in detail.

I would highly recommend this book for two groups of drummers. The advanced player to solidify why you already may or may not know.

Regardless of other people's negative reviews about this book, I found Pedal Control to be a complex book with tons of useful information about feet control ! It not only covers the theory about pedal technique and setup, but it gives you a lot of practical exercices to develop your feet. Today's drummer recognize the importance of developping the hands, but we can't ignore the fact that feet control is now an essential part of the drummer's curriculum. Of course, it requires time, practice, dedication and commitment, and the book cannot gives you that ! This is the player's part of the game ! If one is dreaming of a magic pill, then this book is not for you ! What the book does is giving you an OPPORTUNITY to work hard on your feet. It gives you the right tools and exercices to make shure you attain your objectives. If you master every single page of this book and still don't feel the improvement of your feet, then I really don't know what can help you ! Be patient and work hard ! This is all there's to do ! This is what I do and what I'll continue doing. Why ? Because I feel a tremendous improvement and this gets me excited to the highest level ! I like challenges ! I like my feet and I certainly like Pedal Control ! I definitely recommend it to anyone who's ready to bring their feet to a new level ! Two thumbs up !

Initially, I was extremely baffled at the negative reviews for this book, but then I realized that they just don't get it and are probably still figuring out how to play wipe out!

This book is about presenting concepts related to pedal technique and the different applications to use the various techniques that are brilliantly outlined and presented. Again, the techniques in this book need to be worked at, just like any other rudiment or study and the CD / Pictures that are included go a long way to help you achieve your goals!

I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS BOOK FOR ANYONE WHO WANTS JOE MORELLO FEET!

It gets into the specifics of pedal technique and it is a very complete body of work regarding the subject. I don't understand how or why this book would ever get a bad review.. Dom Famularo is an excellent teacher and is the author of classic books. There is nothing in the market like this book.. it's about time that drummers are giving pedal technique more emphasis. Much needed!

Very useful book, similar to "It's your Move" by Famularo, but for feet, to improve your bass drum technique.

I've been playing drums for two years and to me foot technique has been one of the must puzzling elements of drumming; it was the only basic topic I didn't have on my books, so I bought it (already had purchased Stick Control, Four Way Coordination, Encyclopedia of Double Bass Drumming, Conversations in Clave, and Jojo Mayer's DVD for hand technique). The book has an arsenal of excercises that are most likely benefitial; however, the topics are not organized in a clear progressive way and this makes it a bit difficult to understand where the authors are taking you; this is a serious problem in my opinion. The disc includes a few videos showing the techniques in a fairly clear manner, but don't expect to hear any pieces of advice; all you see is a guy's legs hitting a bass drum.

The techniques they explain are heel-down and three versions of the heel-up.

I recommend that players who struggle with foot technique check the techniques explained by Jojo Mayer in a footage of one of his clinics that is available on Youtube, and also a few home videos posted there by unknown guys who know what they're doing. It did wonders for me.
