I wasn't familiar with the band Blessed By a Broken Heart prior to this album, but I took a chance on Pedal to the Metal based on the album artwork and the band photo on the back cover. I was hoping for something along the lines of Dirty Penny or Endeverafter - energetic 80's style hard rock. Instead, Blessed By a Broken Heart is essentially a metalcore band that's apparently trying to merge that sound with 80's hair metal. Only it's not really similar to 80's hair metal at all, but rather what a bunch of kids with a God fixation who grew up too late for that era and think this is what 80's hair metal sounded like. It's almost a bad parody, especially with that cheap techno keyboard sound.

I don't think it's impossible to mix metalcore and hair metal, but Blessed By a Broken Heart misses the mark completely. As a metalcore album, I suppose the novelty factor of Pedal to the Metal is pretty decent. I have a hard time seeing how this album is supposed to appeal to 80's rock fans though. Maybe this is the band's honest tribute to that era, but it sure doesn't feel like it. It feels like parody, and if I wanted that I'd listen to Steel Panther. At least they're up front about it.

EDIT: Having heard more material from BBABH's new album Feel The Power, I bumped up my rating of this album to 3-stars. Apparently the band is set on making this kind of music work, and they did get a lot better.

love this CD! One of the most fun discs I have ever heard. Great to work out to, great to drive to, great for a pick-me-up. It is so fresh and just good plain fun. And if you are looking for some great music to work out to...look no further! This group is one of the most unique, awesome, different bands I've ever heard! The only bad part about this album is the looks you will get from other people while your rocking out in your car! Seriously, this album is classic.

The cd is awesome! Buy it people! It's metal you can understand with out all the deep shouting that can mean anything. The beats and rhythm are great.

this album is amazing for what it is. It is 80s style rock mixed with hardcore. Which makes it a heavy album but with many catchy choruses and amazing guitar solos. The band is very silly theyre corny and tacky they even dress up 80s style but thats what this is all about FUN. They are sorta like old Avenged Sevenfold before they sold out but with a huge 80s influence. Their guitarist Shred Sean is absolutly amazing he is definitly on road to being the next Yngwie if not already. Just go to their myspace and give em a listen and see what you think. If you do decide to purchase the album i would suggest going to Hot Topic where they have the album with 3 extra bonus tracks. Who knows they might just be your new guilty pleasure?
