these work well on FLEXIBLE toes,
This review is from: Pedifix Double-Toe Straightener #P57 (Health and Beauty)
Dispensed by podiatrists, these special pads work well for MOST people with crooked toes. However, if you have very RIGID toe problems, while this particular device is probably still worth testing, try also pedifix toe cushions, toe caps or toe separators. And don't be dismayed, even a podiatrist will require some product 'trial and error' to find the best solution for YOUR particular condition. No Sore Feet! FS

Toe Straightener,
This review is from: Pedifix Double-Toe Straightener #P57 (Health and Beauty)
I have a cross-over toe problem. An orthopedic doctor recommended this appliance.
This product is the best I have found to keep my toes straight.

No Effect,

I purchased two of the double-toe straighteners to straighten my second toe on both feet. They are slightly comfortable at best, but in order to straighten the toe you have to get the straighteners pretty tight, which in turn causes discomfort in both toes.
Since using I've noticed no change in the overall straightness of my toes. I can only assume that any results that achieved from the straighteners will be temporary. They're cheap enough to where it is not a huge loss if they don't work.

Kept me running without metatarsal pain,
By
This review is from: Pedifix Double-Toe Straightener #P57 (Health and Beauty)
After wearing these for the first time, was able to run 5-10 miles without metatarsal pain. I have a longer 2nd toe, fallen 2nd/3rd metatarsal heads, moderate hammertoe, and bunions. I had been putting gel cushions under the balls of my feet for years, with only partial relief. My podiatrist recommended this product and it really works for me. Straightening the toes, plus the padding, relieves the pain and pressure. The only problem is that for longer runs, the serrated edges along the top pad chaffe the bottom of my foot, and I believe this is a design flaw- why couldn't they have used a smooth taper cut for the top pad? To solve the chaffe issue, I have flipped the pair over and reversed the straps; although it doesn't fit as well, it solves the chaffe issue. The straps can be a little uncomfortable for daily wear, but the manufacturer Pedifix recommends only 4 hours at a time, and this is to be expected. I not particularly heavy (140 lbs) and these still hold up well under the impact of a regular running program, plus I am a forefoot runner. Even with the chaffe problem (moleskin would probably help, too) I recommend these for runners who have tender fallen metatarsals with a moderate amount of hammer toe.

My husband uses this item very much and his physio-therapist also recomends it. You can adjust it to your liking. Very good.

It Does Help,

I've just ordered three more packages. It works for me and I do have one suggestion. After you fit the product on your two toes, tape the product around your foot to hold the product in place. Until I did this, the product twisted itself off. I recommended this product to all with problem toes. One more thing: I do not expect this product to correct my problem toes. Surgery is required. However, with this product, I am able to wear all of my shoes comfortably with no stress on my troubled toes.
I hope this helps. Cheers!

Not worth $7 - look elsewhere for a solution,

These are garbage. I would have given "no stars" if that was possible. I've worn twice. After the first wearing, the fabric (on the pad) was severely ripped from wearing. Almost as if I'd played basketball, soccer, and field hockey in them. Additionally, the actual shape of the pad doesn't make any sense in relation to the shape of the foot.

Effective but OH SO PAINFUL!!!,
This review is from: Pedifix Double-Toe Straightener #P57 (Health and Beauty)
I was indicated these by my podiatrist and have been using them during the day for the past 2 and a half months to straighten out my 2nd and 3rd toe on each foot one and my 3rd and 4th toe on each foot the next; I didn't understand why my doc initially advised that the 3 looped one would be "too much for me", I found out later he meant "too much pain at once"!
My only flexible toe is the 4th, it hurts the least on that one, on the rest it feels like my bones are slightly or slowly breaking; PAINFUL!! When I take them off my 3rd toe is especially red on top, where the calluses of my hammertoes would be, again PAINFUL! Also, in the first month of use I got three blisters on the side of the 3rd toe on each foot and 2 more on the side of the 4th toe on each foot (8 blisters total); again OUCH!!! As you can imagine, in the last month and a half I've used it a lot less in an attempt to avoid the blisters. I use it a couple of hours a day and take them off. On the bright side, though painfully sore, my toes are straighter and more flexible the first few hours after I take them off and if a stop using them a few days my toes hurt as if returning to their hammertoe position; they seem to work. Another bright side, the pad provides wonderful relief of metatarsal pain from calluses or stress. Call me a massoquist but I just purchased a 3 loop straightner by Pedifix which I hope will be quicker n the straightening process. I also purchaseed a hammertoe straightner for the 2nd and 4th toes (by Footsmart) which I hope will be less painful and a single loop straightner to use on the 3rd toe (also by Footsmart). The pain of my hammertoes is simply greater and more permanent than the straightners, according to my podiatrist, this will be over in a year; I've lived with PAINFUL hammertoes for as long as I can remember. If you are like me, willing to take some "short term pain" to relieve long term pain this might be worth the investment. Just know the process is NOT gentle nor is the product gentle, as advertised. Hope this helps!

my toes have been giving trouble for a few years now. i'm guessing from not wearing the proper shoe size and/or enough toe space. out of desperation i decided to try this particular brand. i honestly did not expect them (i bought two) to help much, but they did. the elastic strap that you pull taught to straighten your toe really worked. the reason i gave only three stars is that after 3 days of use the pads started to disintergrate. another 3 days and the strap will brake loose. i'm thinking of making my own toe straightener but using a more durable pad; like carpeting or leather maybe!

MY PROBLEM,

This product was exactly what I expected it to be. Unfortunately, it did not work for me. I have a size 14 shoe . There is enough elastic to hold both toes, but the base which is supposed to hold the toes in place slipped and twisted on my toes.
The idea still sounds good to me , but one size fits all is a problem. Maybe it would work for a smaller foot. |
