4.0 out of 5 stars This does the trick!
Low tech and very easy to use. It's great to have a reliable way to re-close the champagne bottle and retain the precious bubbles. As a result, we drink my favorite beverage more often, as opposed to the times when we know we can kill a whole bottle!

1.0 out of 5 stars Quality problems.
I have not been able to make this stopper fit even one sparkling wine bottle, French or American. It simply doesn't fit on, despite very considerable effort. After many attempts I ended up throwing it out.

UPDATE: Based on comments by another person who got a defective one, it appears that the issue may be a quality-control problem at the manufacturer. I would not recommend this item, since if you one of the defective ones, you're going to be just as dissatisfied.

5.0 out of 5 stars When you've got a whole bottle and no one to share it with!, September 19, 2001

Sometimes you just need to celebrate w/champagne and no one else is around. This little baby greatly surpassed my expectations the first time I used it. This surprised me too, because you push the top on and then clamp down the sides, and when you do this, the top pops up a little bit. I thought for sure this would make the topper not work. I was wrong!
The bubbly was bubbly the next day, and my celebration continued. Also, it is shiny and beautiful, a definite plus. Yay for my fabulous Pedrini champagne stopper!

1.0 out of 5 stars Caution! Health Warning On This Product, June 15, 2004

WARNING: Do not buy these champagne stoppers because they leak rust into the bottle you use them on!

I bought 4 of champagne stoppers last week. Even though they were packaged in cardboard and plastic, they arrived dirty and dusty. So I washed them in soap and water and let them dry.

I placed one on a champagne bottle I opened. A few days later I tasted 1/2 glass and it did keep the champagne reasonably air tight

However, I noticed a brown rusty liquid on the bottle and the champagne stopper. So I took it apart and was surprised to see the internal spring was 50% rusted and there was about 1/2 oz. of rusty liquid hiding in the top - behind the rubber stopper - which had leaked into the champagne!

I immediately called a physician friend to find out about has rust poisoning.

I am angry about this and considering suing Perdrini. I have already contacted the New York City Health Department. What idiot designs a beverage storage product that rusts - Food & beverage storage products need to be at least minimally cleaned with soap and water.

In summary, BUYER BEWARE

5.0 out of 5 stars This item deserves more that 5 stars, September 27, 2001

Conventional wine stoppers just don't work with champagne. If you have part of a bottle left over, it just goes to waste. I bought one of these at a winery on Long Island and it works really well. It has to be removed a little carefully, but the fizz stays in your champagne, and the stopper doesn't explode off in your refridgerator. The price is right also.

This thing really works! While the bubbles don't last forever, they last long enough to enjoy the champagne over several days. I use vacuum stoppers for wine, but they, of course, don't work on "bubbly." I agree with the other reviewer, champagne isn't just for special occasions anymore!

Keeps the carbonation inside the bottle for around a week, but the champagne usually sours by then. Unlike one unsatisfied reviewer, I have used this on California and French chapagne bottles without any problems. Solid metal construction that should last for a long time.

These are great! They allow me to keep a couple of bottles of champagne opened and in the refrigerator ready to serve. These clever stoppers "stop" the champagne from going flat, even after several days.
