gear mechanism disappointing,
By A Customer
This review is from: Pedrini Salad Spinner, Green (Kitchen)
While I have owned the Pedrini salad spinner for at least a year and was fairly satisfied with it, recently the "teeth" pieces of the gear action started to break off. I found one in my garbage disposal after it severely jammed. This obviously isn't a spinner designed to last.

Salad spinner doesn't work very well at all. The top tries to come off as you turn the spinner. You have to hold it down with your entire arm, pressing firmly. Spinner is made of flimsy plastic, seems cheaply made.

"Resistant to Extended Usage.".....,
This review is from: Pedrini Salad Spinner, Blue (Kitchen)
Honestly, out of the 8 language hype on the box, that is the last sentence in English. I can't understand why the reviewer before me was upset that the gears began to break after a year. It's not like she was not forewarned. :o)
Seriously, this sells for about 1/2 the price of the Oxo and the Oxo has not gotten the best reviews. It appears to be sturdy and has plenty of room (The spinner basket appears to hold about 3-qts.). My favorite salad is an icey-cold Caesar. I will see how this spinner works on the Romaine lettuce and report back. (Update): I tried it this past evening and apparently I did not spin the Romaine long enough. The leaves were still wet after 1/2 minute or so. This may sound strange, but I could have used some instructions for 'successful spinning'. For example, I tore the lettuce into salad-sized pieces before spinning. Was this correct, or should I have left the leaves intact? Should I stir the leaves after a bit and then continue spinning? Perhaps some other kind reviewer can help.

Dry your lettuce properly!,
This review is from: Pedrini Salad Spinner, Yellow (Kitchen)
Someone once asked me why I go to all the bother of washing my salad leaf by leaf, then putting it in the spinner and spinning the water off - would it not be easier just to rinse it and give it a good shake?Bleugh. If you like crunchy salad with lots of flavour that lasts longer than ten seconds on the table you have to get the water off. Otherwise the leaves go limp. If your leaves are wet the dressing will not cling properly and your crutons will go soggy and horrible. The only sure way to get your leaves thouroughly dry is with a centrifuge spinner. This machine spins the leaves fast, and draws all the water to the sides, where it dribbles to the bottom and collects. When you empty the bowl, it's not just the amount of water that amazes me, it's the greenfly you somehow manage to miss in the washing. They also get thrown out of the leaves. For really good salad it's no good cutting corners. Dry your leaves properly. Use one of these.

Has Worked Great For Us...,

We have had this salad spinner for five years now after picking it up at a discount store for a similar price. I grew up in a family of salad eaters and spinners, this is the first one that I purchased after marrying and moving into our new home. Its size is convenient -- plenty of room for salad for 2-4 people. But it is small enough to put in a drawer under the counter. The colors have remained true -- the green lid is still cheerful, and the white bowl, handle, and spinning colander are unstained (though I would not try spinning sliced beets in this. of course, why would one want to?). I have had no problem with the gear teeth, nor does the lack of a locking lid bother me. I can't imagine trying to use any salad spinner without resting my hand on the lid, I would fear that it would skitter off the counter. And the placement of the knob to one side of the lid facilitates having your resting hand on the opposite side. Overall, I am very satisied with this product. In fact, I am here today buying one for my mother -- her vintage generic spinner has given up after fifteen years of frequent use.

Horrible!!,
This review is from: Pedrini Salad Spinner, Blue (Kitchen)
I am willing to sell mine for the cost of postage - if anyone wants it! It is so disappointing - the top is hard to fit and the the "knob appendage" that is used to spin the salad greens keeps popping up and has to be slammed down again. I really do think this a terrible waste of resources and money. I've only used mine three times and am going out to buy something better (like my zyliss that wore out after many years of use).
