This corkscrew gets the job done. It is comfortable to use and not a lot of force is required to remove the cork. However, I have had some problems with the cork breaking, even on more expensive wine bottles.

I found the Pedrini double lever opener to be a good buy. There are many others which look similar, but look closer. The Pedrini has a true wound-metal screw while many others only give you a die-cast screw. The difference is important as the die-cast style has a thick solid center to the screw, so it must displace more cork while turning thus increasing the effort and the risk of cork splitting. The diecast screw is also not nearly as strong as the wound-metal and can crack and break; it is also heavier. It is a good value, a good manufacturer and a good choice.

This corkscrew is inexpensive. Spend the money you saved on a nice bottle of wine.

The idea here is pretty simple. Screw in the corkscrew, pull down on the handles. Thus the cork is removed and the wine can be poured. It's not rocket science. Simple and effective.

Oh, and it's dishwasher safe.

Over time, we've all tried many different types of corkscrews. Some work a whole lot better than others. And this is one that works very well.

Once the screw bites into the cork fully, the levers when pushed down normally bring the cork right up. Sometimes, if a body is not careful and if the cork is very dry, part of the cork may stay in the bottle. But this corkscrew, from my experience, can retrieve the potential mess most of the time under such circumstances if one use a deft touch.

In short, this is a good purchase to consider. Simple to operate and very dependable.

I've had this corkscrew for several years, and it works great! I'm not particularly strong, and it is very easy to use.

Good product, bought it like a millennium ago, still pulling corks strong... no rust or buckle or anything. Still looks like new.

Good investment if you're a wine connesuier( drinker - spell check doesn't know this word). :-)

After a couple of years of use the metal finally broke. It would have probably lasted longer if I didn't use it for opening bottle as well. Otherwise it works just fine as a wine bottle corkscrew. Hint: Get another bottle opener and use this exclusively for wine.

My old corkscrew of 25 year use fell on the floor and broke. I was so happy to find a model on Amazon which was almost an exact replacement for the old one, and shipping was so fast, I had it before I needed to open the next bottle of wine. Works like a charm.

4.0 out of 5 stars Easy to use, but after YEARS of use, it does finally break..., November 23, 2010
This review is from: Pedrini Black & Satin 6-Inch Basic Corkscrew (Kitchen)
We have had this item for over 12 years. If you get the screw all the way into the cork before trying to lower the handles (to easily lift it out), you will get the cork out every time. (Your patience is rewarded.)
However, after 12 years of use, the screw-top itself actually twisted right off. Not bad for an item under $8. We quickly purchased a waiter's corkscrew and realized quickly we wanted the ease of the Pedrini instead.

This corkscrew is pretty bad. It breaks corks often, and it is difficult to use with synthetic corks. I have better luck using my restaurant-style corkscrew and some elbow grease. The corkscrew I got from IKEA for $1 is better than this one. It looks nice but that's it. This was poorly constructed and I was disappointed. I wouldn't have made the purchase if I knew this, and won't buy this brand ever again. Listen to the bad reviews on this one!
