Pedrini Hand Grater - Great for Veggies or Cheese, check it out!,

Pedrini Black & Satin Stainless Steel Cheese Grater
This hand grater is the second Pedrini product I've bought here recently. It's great for grating veggies or cheese. It has a nice curvature to it which seems to perform better than my flat one. There are a few other hand graters sold here, but I stayed away from those because they are mostly flat, which I already have. I also like that this grater has a few different zones for different sizes, a nice extra. And I've been getting used to Pedrini; they make very good quality products and the prices so far have been great. There are some advantages to using this guy over a box grater, namely the ease of cleaning. It also gives you better access for many Italian recipes that call for grating cheese on top of a plated product. You can really control how much you use with this guy, versus a box grater. You could also use this guy for zesting, though a fork generally works for me. I did look over the OXO i-series grater in the store, which seemed to have a thicker grating surface OXO Good Grips i-Series Hand Held Grater. Still, I've done well with Pedrini lately, and I really prefer this curved handle to the one on the OXO grater. The handle is made out of black plastic, which is somewhat normal for these guys. Oxo does make one with a steel handle, but it still has rubber grips so it's not much difference OXO SteeL Grater. Definitely give this grater from Pedrini a look. Enjoy!

Comfortable to hold, convenient size for kitchen and tableside, dishwasher-safe, plus all the nice things Mark said about it. What's not to like?

After reading the reviews, I went for this grater for hard cheeses in particular vs a box grater. While this is light to hold, sturdy with curved design, I did not find it to my liking. I have a set of spice graters that provide a better quality grate than this and that hold the grated product until I'm ready to sprinkle it where I want it to go. I couldn't figure out how the curved design is suppose to help with that...unless one works up-side-down, the curved bowl section is on the bottom...
Unless one is grating over a large plate or bowl forget using this for a quick grate of say...parm cheese, over a prepared baking/baked casserole, a serving plate or bowl, or a salad. It spits all over the place and is impossible to pick up the tiny pieces of food from the counter. It does have 2 grating sections; one smaller than the other, but using the 'largest' of the holed sections, the above is what I got. I can only imagine the smaller section with the smaller holes (located closest to the handle) is for things like cinnamon or maybe ginger or horseradish. I will eventually find the perfect use for this, but I'm writing this review because I'm back to actually purchase a box grater which I should have done originally so,being in this section, thought I'd share my thoughts on this one.

I became aware of this grater 2 months ago in a small Italian town whilst grating parmesan! Could not find it at the local stores, could not find it in Paris (where I live) online anywhere, so had to buy it through amazon.com and have it sent to a friend in the States who was coming over to France!
That's how much I wanted this grater!! And it's worth it.

This is one of those things I shouldn't have bought - it's not a box grater (too fine), not a microplane (too coarse), and ended up in the very back of the kitchen drawer.

First of all this is really only good to grate the very hardest of cheeses into fine dust. The surface is better suited to hard spice grinding (ex. nutmeg). I'm actually not sure how well it would handle the task considering the handle separated from the grating surface the first time I used it; granted it can be shoved back together and used with caution.
I just examined the picture of the "Pedrini Black & Satin Steele Cheese Grater" that I have been asked to review and upon closer inspection see that it is not the same exact grater that they sent me. The holes on the one in the picture look like those of a "fine" slot cheese grater and would probably work fine, that is if the handle stays on. Perhaps I am the only one who received the wrong one.... Let's hope so. I picked up something exactly like the "RSVP Endurance Cheese Graters, Set of 2" at Whole foods (probably the same product packaged up w/ WF label" and they work perfectly well for a myriad of tasks and are very sturdy.
