A solid corkscrew
I had a hard time finding a corkscrew like this one, until I came to amazon.com of course. This a solid cork-popper for the money. The construction is all metal (except for the ring that goes around the bottle). It is very easy to use, and it will be awhile before I'll need to shop for another one. It's hard to find them like this!

Nothing special. Not as pictured
I'm sure this corkscrew will work adequately, however, I was a bit surprised to get one that is different from the one pictured. The head of the corkscrew, which you can use to open caps with, does not have a black rubber section, as in the picture. The one I got only has black rubber on the ends of the arms. Also, it's much more cheaply made than I had imagined...

Also, it's much more cheaply made than I had imagined. There's really not much different between it and any much cheaper cork extractor that you see in stores all over. I was disappointed, as it's much less than I was expecting for the price.

I was disappointed to find that the corkscrew I was sent did not have the rubber strip across the top of the bottle opener part of the corkscrew as shown in the picture. It only has black rubber on the tips of the handles. Ignoring that, the corkscrew is not that much better than the generic, and much, much cheaper versions that you see in stores all the time. It's not particularly well made, and the corkscrew itself isn't coated to facilitate easy screwing into the cork. The ring to protect the bottle top is cheap plastic and the entire unit is not fitted together well. I'm sure that it will work adequately for opening wine, but it is much less than I expected for the price and by the description and reviews.

elegant and inexpensive, July 23, 2001

Well, it's got classy Italian design, a smooth anodized body, and nice rubber grippers--there's even a bottle opener on the handle. The winged corkscrew is a perfect, timeless design--one of of the best ways to get into that dusty old bottle of pinot noir.
