5.0 out of 5 stars Where it all began ..., September 2, 2004
By P. Brueggeman "peterbman" (La Jolla, CA United States) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
Pee Wee surfaced in the Groundlings Theater as I recall, and then this superb show played at the Roxy Theater on Sunset Strip where I saw it. It was electrifying theater. First thing was Pee Wee coming out on stage, talking to the audience in his style, and throwing handfuls of mini tootsie rolls out into the audience, and laughing like a maniac. It went on from there and into this show. Absolutely a superb show like nothing else at the time, and this tape captures it so well. It absolutely has to come out on DVD. I watched the children's show religiously as a fan but here is where it all began. There was also a clear vinyl record of Pee Wee with a painted-on cartoon graphic of him by Gary Panter. It's worth hunting down if you're a fan.

5.0 out of 5 stars Pee Wee - Unplugged, January 7, 1999
By A Customer
This is the one that started it all. Videotaped in 1981 at the Roxy Theater in Los Angeles, this is essentially a stage show that precursored the dawn of Pee Wee. It's much funnier than the TV Series and definitely more... adult (without being obscene). When I rented this I had never heard of this guy - I was looking for a video for my son (8 -then) to watch. He was out playing with his friends so I watched it instead. It was the funniest thing I'd seen in a while. Even then you could see Paul Reubens comic genius. However this video is hard to find for some reason. I hope it will again be made available.

5.0 out of 5 stars Silly fun, September 5, 2003
By Kris Peterson (Kalamazoo, Michigan USA) - See all my reviews
I have watched this video many times over the past 10 years and the silliness still holds up. This origianl show first broadcast on HBO around 1991 is original and worth a watch. It is unfortunate that it is only available on VHS, DVD would do the production far more justice.

4.0 out of 5 stars good weird fun
As another reviewer so correctly pointed out, this is adult humor. Pee Wee should never have gone into children's television. He's much better when he's satirizing it. Read more
